Gifted Education Philosophy
“There is nothing more unequal than equal treatment of unequal people.”
We believe that every human being is of value with the right to optimal development. Each person is unique from all others. We must acknowledge this and base our programs upon methods of developing that uniqueness. We are committed to an educational program that recognizes the special value and needs of the individual student. Providing programs and materials for gifted students who demonstrate the potential for superior talents in academics, creativity, and critical thinking is an integral part of this commitment.
John Woolever states, “The beauty is not that we have found one way to teach the gifted, but that we recognize that many options are necessary, and we try to provide a good number of them.” We believe that gifted students need a qualitatively differentiated program which takes into consideration individual learning styles and special abilities. The program should help develop growth in self-esteem and skills in independent study, creative thinking, and critical thinking.
