GT is the acronym for Gifted and Talented. GT is a program for third through twelfth grade students. The CogAT or OLSAT is administered to determine gifted placement. A score at or above the 97th percentile is required for placement. A child may be tested using both screeners once yearly or at two separate times yearly using the two different tests. Once a child tests into GT, they cannot be removed except by the parent. If the parent removes the child for a period of three or more years, then the child must retest to determine future GT placement. GT at the elementary level is a pull-out enrichment class that meets weekly.
If you feel like your child would benefit from placement in GT you may contact me or the counselor at your child's school to request testing. The GT teacher at each site administers, scores, and keeps all confidential files on students referred for testing. Testing will take place at the beginning of the school year and again in April and the first part of May. If you would like to have your child tested, please contact the GT teacher to get your child added to the list for the next testing cycle.
