Freshman POW

The freshman football team is off to a great start. They are 2-0 and have beat two teams that last year were losses. Last week was Catoosa and this week they traveled to Skiatook and played in a game that required them to play all 4 quarters to get the job done.

It was a back and forth game that had the Zebras in the lead at have time by 3 points after a Hail Mary that was completed to Graham Williams with no time on the clock. The offense was humming but it took some defensive half time adjustments to put the game away in the second half. The final score was 41-24 and the all of the boys left it all on the field.

As I just said they all left it all on the field, but there were two performances that stood out.  Graham Williams played almost every snap on defense and about half the snaps on offense. Graham was coming off a disappointing performance in week one and he was going to make sure that did not happen again. It started early as he was able to get behind the defense for a 71 yard touchdown reception late in the first quarter, but he was not done. As I already alluded to he caught his second touchdown pass to end the half on a Hail Mary. Graham ended his night with 3 catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns. That is just what he did on offense. He also had multiple pass breakups and tackles on the defensive side. Graham showed up and was a big reason the Zebras got a huge win.

The other player was quarterback Kellen Gaede. I have coached freshman football for many years and I cannot remember someone having a night like Kellen did. Kellen's passing went like this. He was 7 of 12 for 198 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also carried the ball 9 times for 120 yards and 3 touchdowns. Math is hard but even I know that means he had his hands in on all 6 of the offensive touchdowns. Kellen took the game over, and even audibled a play for a touchdown. A freshman quarterback that sees the game the way he does is special, and makes the job of the offensive coordinator easy.

The entire team played extremely well, but how hard they played is what stood out. The team was visibly exhausted after a hard fought game and deserved the win. If you haven't had a chance to see these boys play you will have a chance this week as they play their home opener against Glenpool on Thursday.

Great job boys and lets make it 3-0 this week.
