Dear Zebra family:

Claremore Public schools is proud of the many extracurricular activities offered to our students. From athletics to the arts, it is a joy to see them compete, to work together and to learn the many life lessons that these programs can teach.

As a fan, you play a critical role in their game-time experience. Thank you for cheering on their success and for supporting them when they take the field, the court, the pitch or the stage.

As you may know, the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) governs most middle school and high school extracurricular programs. This year, the OSSAA Board of Directors has implemented a new policy regarding the behavior of coaches, players and spectators during athletic events.

Under the new guidelines, the season can be canceled for a team or an individual following two “egregious” acts of unsportsmanlike conduct. Examples include fighting among players or fans, constant verbal attacks of officials and the use of inappropriate or demeaning chants from the sideline or stands.

Claremore Public Schools promotes high standards for our students and student athletes. Yes, we want to have competitive, successful programs – but this goal pales in comparison to our most important mission: helping students grow into productive and respectful leaders who will make a difference in this world.

As a spectator, a parent and/or a fan, thank you for setting a positive example for them.

Go Zebras!

Sincerely,

 Brian Young

Athletic Director
