track

Track Season is off and running, pun intended. Your Zebras have been working hard since December and that work is paying dividends.

100m Dash

Lynie Bailey is running consistent numbers that have made her a 2x SQ in the event. She is getting ready to crush her personal best of 12.6 seconds. We also have 2 freshmen, Gracie Baughman and Addison Reavis, that have run sub 14 second 100m dashes to put them in the top 10 in the school record book.

Gage Deckard, returning silver medalist, is back with a vengeance after his record setting and All State football season. He just ran his career best: 10:84. Freshman Kade Moore is finding himself a big part to the men’s track team too with a sub 11 second 100m dash as well. Junior Breyen Dotson, Ashton Andrews and senior Eli Rodgers also find themselves in Claremore’s top sprinters in school history.

200m Dash

Lynie Bailey, again, is running fast. She has not quite set her PR, but she is getting close. She is only .2 seconds off of her personal best. Teammates Malorie Shaw, Presley Woods, Gracie Baughman, and Addison Reavis are running strong times and are trying to get on the podium this season.

For the boys Gage Deckard is getting faster and chasing the school record held by state champion, Tyler Jackson. Freshman Brandon Shaw just set the freshman record with running a 22.61 second race. Dylan Cryder and Ashton Andrews are in the books for Claremore’s top sprinters in school history.

400m Dash

Freshman Brandon Shaw is leading the charge here with a 52.53 second race. Not too far off are both Junior Dylan Cryder and Freshman Tanner Wilson. These three are pushing one another at practice and at meets and it should help Claremore in the team race at conference in a couple of weeks.

On the ladies’ team we have two underclassmen taking care of business. Currently Addison Reavis has a team best, 65 second race, but sophomore Chloe Grubbs is close on her heels. Both ladies have their eyes on the record set by Addison’s sister, Paiten, in 2022 at the state track meet.

800m Dash

Here we find Junior Emma Robinson setting the tone with her 2:22 race on 4/12. She is running her race right now and sits in third in 5A with that mark. Chloe Grubbs is also putting together a solid season here as well, sitting just outside the top 10 in school history.

On the boys’ side, Senior Devyn Llewellyn and Junior Levi Craig are pacing the team. Though neither are ranked in the state, they are starting to peak and will most definitely help earn points in the team race.

1600m run

In this event the Claremore squad has some depth. For the guys, Devyn is leading the way here with his 5A, 4th place ranking. However, Juniors Sawyer Beller, Levi Craig and Sophomore Gabe Rodriguez help make the workouts competitive and help make this group one of the best in the state.

As for the girls, Emma Robinson is leading this group as well. She is currently sitting 3rd all time in Claremore History and is ranked 4th in 5A. This group also has two sophomores that will race with anyone; Abbie Douthitt and Eleanor Isaacs. These two are setting PR’s almost every race and will help make an impact for the women’s team race.

3200m run

Eleanor Isaacs is currently sitting within the top 25 in the state. Her current pace also puts her within the top ten 2 mile runners in school history.

For the men's side of this event, Senior Devyn Llewellyn is sitting in 2nd place in school history behind current Kansas State runner, Jack Vincent. Devyn also is ranked 4th in 5A. The boys’ two mile room looks similar to the mile group but with the addition of 9th grader Patrick Mitchell who is improving every meet.

Hurdles

State Qualifier, Marcus Bean, is currently ranked 10th in 5A in the 300m hurdles but sophomore Bryson Hall has taken nearly 6 seconds off of his freshman time and is beginning to rise in the rankings.

Junior Makayla Lentz set her PR on 4/12, in Claremore, when she ran an 18.10 100m hurdle race. Freshman Audrey Shaw is competing here as well and has taken a second off of her 110m and 300m hurdle times.

Relays

4x100

The boys 400m relay team (42.98)  is currently ranked 7th in 5A. This squad, currently made of Breyen Dotson,  Dylan Cryder, Eli Rodgers, and Gage Deckard, has their eyes set on not only the state podium but also a school record (42.41), that was set in 1993.

As for the ladies, Kortlynn Sansom, Addison Reavis, Makayla Lentz, and Lynie Bailey, put on an impressive showing at the April 5th meet with a 50.87 race. That time is currently 9th best in 5A and is only half a second off the school record that was set in 2003.

4x200

Kortlynn Sansom, Addison Reavis, Presley Woods, and Lynie Bailey currently sit in 7th place in Claremore History with their time, 1:49.57. They are just outside the top 10 in the state at their current pace but hold the 5th best time on the east side of the state.

Breyen Dotson, Dylan Cryder, Brandon Shaw, and Gage Deckard make up the 3rd fastest group on the east side of Oklahoma 5A. As it sits, this group is only .31 off the school record set at state in 2015.

4x400

Dylan Cryder, Tanner Wilson, Brandon Shaw, and Eli Rodgers set a season best at the Zebra Invitational. Their time of 3:33, currently has them at 12 place in the 5A standings.

Kortlynn Sansom, Chloe Grubbs, Addison Reavis, and Emma Robinson are in 9th place in the 5A rankings. Coincidentally they are also in 9th in the all-time school rankings as well. This crew also set their season best time at the Claremore Invitational and is peaking at the right time.

4x800

Levi Craig, Gabriel Rodriguez, Sawyer Beller, and Devyn Llewellyn (8:55.94) this time is good for top 10 in Claremore History. They have some work to do to bring home hardware, but I won’t bet against someone that is willing to sprint two laps around the track.

Field Events

Pole Vault

Kylee Saye, Junior, currently sits in the top 10 in school history. Her height of 8’ is good enough for a 12 place ranking in 5A. Be on the lookout for a strong finish for this vaulter.

The boys sport a very deep squad, filled with veterans. Led by returning placer Cooper Zickefoose and qualifier Mason Gillispie, Alex Miller has made the leap into the state rankings as well, as all 3 are ranked in the top 10 in the state.

High Jump

Eli Rodgers in his second season of track is having a stellar year in the high jump.  He is currently tied for 5th place in 5A with his teammate Marcus Bean.  Both jumpers have cleared 6’2 with room to spare.  Right on their heels is freshman Furious Poole ranked 11th in 5A with a jump of 6’.

Long Jump

Junior Marcus Bean has been making his mark with a massive PR in long jump with a best of 21’ 6’’. This has made him in #6 in all of 5a schools. Not far behind is senior Nick Garbani in his first year of track and field jumping a 20’ 3’’ jump. Freshman Furious Poole has had a PR of 18’ 11’’ and is continuing to make his mark. Our girls have been putting in work as well. Freshman Addison Reavis has had success in long jump with consistent jumps and a PR of 15’ 1’’. Not far behind is Freshmen Lyric Hansen with a PR of 12’6’’ and Junior Malorie Shaw jumping 14’ 6’’.

Shot Put

With the addition of Coach McQueen to the staff, our shot put crew PR’s nearly every meet. As of today Emoree Woody leads the charge with 32’1” throw for the girls. She currently resides outside of the 5A top 10, but is inching closer to giving herself a chance to make it to state. Also competing for the Zebras are Abbey Henrickson (29’5”), Bethany Crouch (28' 8.5”).

On the boys side, Henry Thompson is having a great season in the ring. He currently sits #3 all time for the Zebras with a 45’6” throw. Also competing for boys are Landon King (39’), Levi Charles (34’), and Tyler Brown (32’).

Discus

Landon King is having an impressive sophomore campaign. After making the 5A finals at Regionals as a freshman, he is competing at an extremely high level. In his most recent meet, he improved his PR by a whopping 15ft! He is now ranked in the top 5 of 5A with a very impressive 148’ 6”. Also competing here are Juniors Josh Feliciano (128’ 10”), Henry Thompson (107’), and Levi Charles (83’).

As for our women’s crew, Abbey Hendrickson is the veteran on staff. She has been a top performer for the Zebras since her freshman year. An ankle injury has slowed her season down, but she was still able to throw a season best, 97’, at the Zebra Invitational on 4/12. Also competing here are senior Emoree Woody (76’), rookie Sophomore Bethany Crouch (74’), and freshman Zyriah Orman (73’).

The Zebras’ season is quickly coming to an end. They will compete on Thursday, April 18th at BTW. The Junior High and High School conference meets on April 25th and 6th, respectively. Followed by Regionals @ TBD on May 4th and State on May 10th and 11th @ Western Heights.
