What a great first full week of Zebra Athletics. We had everything going on this week in both junior high and high school. We played softball, volleyball, football, and even ran in a cross country meet. It started with Varsity softball beating up on the Collinsville Cardinals and  the Junior High winning both games against the Bartlesville Bruins. Then later in the week the Lady Zebras Volleyball team ran away with their match against Wagoner in a straight sets victory 25-16, 25-13, 25-13. The Volleyball Team is trending in the right direction moving up in the rankings to #7. Also, the junior high volleyball teams continued to play well winning 3 out of 4 of their matches this week. Then on to the runners, the cross-country team had its first meet at Owasso. When Coach Wiens was asked how it went he replied “They ran very well, with many setting personal bests”. The week could not come to an end without playing some football. The 7th, 8th, 9th, JV, and varsity played host to perennial power house 4a Wagoner for the last scrimmage before the season starts next week. The 7th and 8th grade showed extreme growth from last week to this week. Both teams showed that they are tough and will be a very competitive team this year. The freshman also showed up and played well. The offense moved the ball, completing their first pass of the season on a Lee to Lee connection. I have heard that they call themselves the “killer Lee’s”, lets see if they can live up to that name as the season strides on. Also, Landon King average around 8 yards a carry at tailback, which we hope to see continue as the season moves forward. The finale of the evening ended with the Zebras singing the fight song and celebrating a 9-7 victory over the Bulldogs. The scrimmage had everything, Braxton throwing a touchdown pass to Bump, two interceptions by the stingy Zebra defense, and a missed field goal to end the game. What a week.

If you missed the action this week, don’t make the mistake of missing all of these teams back in action next week. Softball will play host to Sapulpa on military and first responder’s night. Volleyball will be across the net at home against Skiatook. Cross-country head to Carl Albert for their second meet of the season, and football ends the week with their first game at home against Bartlesville. Come and watch these kids compete and represent this great school district. Go Zebras.
