Mrs. Simpson was selected as one of the two Site Teacher of the Year recipients at Will Rogers Junior High.

As a child in a military family, Mrs. Simpson was no stranger to new schools. By the time she came to Claremore High School in the 9th grade, it was the 10th school she had attended.

That first year at CHS made her want to be a teacher in this district. As a first-generation college graduate, she had to do all the research to make my dream job come true. “I always asked teachers what I could do to help them and how they got to this point in their careers,” she explained.   “Thankfully, the teachers at CPS made sure that I had everything I needed to get into college and even checked on me through my journey,” she added. Knowing that CPS was the school that built her, she shared, “It felt so good to be at my first back-to-school celebration as a teacher!”

She has always been an advocate for public education, serving as a building representative, a committee member to mentor new teachers, attending the Organizing Conference, and numerous other meetings to help fight for public education.

Her experience in the classroom is centered on creating the best relationship possible with her students. “For students to be academically and socially successful, I believe that teachers have to treat our students with kindness and compassion to succeed in that class,” she explained.
