In collaboration with Hillcrest Claremore Hospital, The Biomedical Innovations & Technology class at Claremore High School has been visiting Hillcrest hospital as part of the Biomedical Science Program. Our thanks to Jason Jones, CEO and Melissa Ayers, BSN, RN, - who have provided a program of study and immersion for the Biomed students. Our visits included a tour of the Emergency Department and a discussion with ER staff on how the department functions during emergencies. Students experienced a detailed presentation of nursing professions by Melissa Ayers (Education Coordinator). The students have toured the Pharmacy and discussed pharmacy procedures and best practices with the hospital pharmacist. Students attended lectures and completed activities with the Infection Control Nurse and explored Infection Prevention Professions. Our final visit, scheduled in April, will conclude with a tour of the Diagnostic Imaging center, and a lecture from the Director of Quality addressing issues and the different Quality Control professions. We are thankful for the partnership with Hillcrest Hospital to stimulate the imagination of our Biomed students and introduce the many healthcare opportunities located in our healthcare systems.

Mr. Castillo and the World Language Club had the opportunity to visit Philbrook Museum where they got to see the exposition of the De La Torre Brothers, who are of Mexican American descent, called Collidoscope: De La Torre Brothers Retro-Perspective. Their art is done mainly with blown-glass and resin, and they have a unique style, where they present their view of culture mixed in with humor. It was a great way to see some of the challenges that our society and culture struggle with represented in art. Being able to see and learn from art work that spans centuries old and across the world, allows our students to increase their world point of view.

Ms. Golbek's AP Biology class is hard at work learning about protein folding. Protein folding is a complex process where a linear chain of amino acids folds into a specific three-dimensional structure, essential for its function. This hands-on activity provides students with a tangible representation of protein folding, helping to reinforce key concepts in gene expression. By manipulating pipe cleaners and beads to mimic the folding process, students gained a deeper understanding of how amino acid characteristics such as polarity and charge determine protein structure and function.
