Anyone else ever tried to escape during English class? Last week Mrs. Talbert not only allowed but encouraged her students to escape. This time the escape was a learning activity used to review for their Crucible assessment. Students had a total of 5 tasks to complete to escape. The young scholars had to use clues to find the hidden activities throughout the class. The students completed a crossword puzzle to review significant characters from the play. They read quotes to determine literary devices. The teams read a nonfiction article from Arthur Miller to evaluate how his writing on McCarthyism reached different conclusions because of differences in assumptions, evidence, reasoning, and viewpoints. Moreover, the students had to make connections from the play to The Red Scare/McCarthyism, and additionally, they had to determine the theme of the work. The final task required a little bit of imagination. The team had to pull an Abigail Williams and act as if a yellow bird was afflicting them to win. The CHS Art program creates amazing artists from Art I - AP Studio Art. Scholastic results are in! 🥇 Gold key winners: Molly Bazar 🥈 Silver key winners: Lilly Roberts, Molly Bazar 🥉Honorable mentions: Carley Fields, Jaycie Kimball, Gillian Queller, and Tayler Roach Gold key work advances to a national level competition! This is tough competition, last year there were around 1,000 entries, only around 100 received honorable mentions. Mrs. Hoffer is very proud of her students ❤️!

Interested in medicine 🔬? Thought about being a 🩺 doctor , nurse, biologist...? Coach Wiens's Honors Human Body Systems class at CHS constructed a brain in their lab. This class is one of the courses offered through our BioMed program at CHS and is available to 10th - 12th graders after completing the Honors Principles of Biomed Science class. Interested? Meranda Golbek is a science teacher at Claremore High School. As a 2014 Claremore graduate, she loves being back home in Claremore and teaching in the same community that supported her. She desires to influence young minds to become scientifically literate individuals who can make educated decisions and think critically about the world around them. Ms. Golbek earned a Chemistry degree from Oklahoma State University. She is a member of the Oklahoma Education Association, the OSUTeach Alumni Association, and Oklahoma Science Teachers Association. She has been published in a scientific journal for her research on the negative effects of plastic polymers. We've got another winter weather challenge for our Zebra families. Let's make some Ice Marbles. Put a few drops of food coloring or Kool-aid powder into a balloon then fill with water. Place outside and let it freeze. Depending on how big the balloons are and how cold it is, this will take about 24 hours. Hold them up to the light to see if they are frozen all the way through. Casey Moss is the Librarian and the Book Club sponsor at Claremore High School. She chose Claremore for its rich tradition and many academic and activity opportunities for students. Ms. Moss desires to help them succeed and loves to see them get involved. She earned a bachelors in English with a teacher certification from University of Oklahoma, a Masters in Library Media and Information Technology from Northeastern State University, and is currently studying for a Masters of English Language at Southern Nazarene University. CHS swimmers, Kaylee Ward and Sylvia Admire, swam today in 6A Regional Finals. Sylvia got 1st in the 500 Free and 3rd in the 50 Free. Kaylee got 3rd in the 100 Backstroke and 4th in the 200 IM. Both swimmers qualified for State to be held later this month. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

It’s National School Counselors Week! We have 3 amazing counselors here at CHS. Today we will introduce you, Cindy Vanaman, the Claremore High School Freshmen and Sophomore Counselor since 2014. She enjoys helping kids realize their potential and reach their goals. Forming relationships with students and watching them succeed at something they may not have thought they could do fuels her passion for her job here at CPS. Before coming to CHS worked as a counselor at a wilderness camp for emotionally disturbed adolescent boys in South Florida for 2 years. Then spent 16 years working for DHS in Child Welfare, followed by 6 years as a Program Director for Volunteers for Youth. She still serves on their Board of Directors. She married a CHS graduate and raised their 3 children in the CPS system. All three have kept her on the sidelines and in the stands of Zebra sporting events. When she gets free time, she loves to read and make memories with her family. She received her Masters in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma and her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the State University of NY. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Kari Forest the Junior Counselor/Test Coordinator at Claremore High School. When asked what she loved about working at Claremore, she told us, “Good people and good students!” She went into teaching because she enjoyed learning and wanted to share that with others. She likes to see people succeed and become more than they thought they could. She loves CPS because it’s a good fit for her; not too big, not too small, just right? She began her teaching career in 1980 and came to CPS in 2001. She taught Band for 21 years before coming to Claremore to be a principal and now a counselor. She has been an active volunteer for Volunteers for Youth and a member of CCOSA. She loves gardening and shopping and her beloved St. Louis Cardinals! She received her Masters in Education from NSU and her Bachelors in Music Education from SWOSU. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Scott Greenland is the Psychology and Sociology teacher at Claremore High School. Mr. Greenland became a teacher at Claremore High School because the teachers and coaches in this community have always been very influential in his and his family’s life and he is passionate about helping students in the same way. He earned a Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Arts from Oklahoma Baptist University. Before becoming a teacher, he was the President of non-profit mission organization in west Africa, and is currently the Vice President. Mr. Greenland is married to Stephanie, an English teacher at Claremore High School, and has three children: Anna, Benjamin, and Jackson.
