It’s National School Counselors Week! We have 3 amazing counselors here at CHS. Today we will introduce you Debbie Grace, the Claremore High School Senior Counselor.
She loves the relationships that she develops with the students and staff as a member of the Zebra family. Although she doesn’t have a “classroom”, she thrives in helping students get to graduation and prepare for their future.
She has been at CHS since 2013. At CPS, she serves on the Title 6 (JOM) committee, Teacher of the Year nomination committee and coordinates the annual Mr. Claremore fundraiser for the CHS counseling department.
Previously she was a Child Welfare supervisor with the Department of Human Services and an original board member for the William W Barnes Children’s Advocacy Center.
Her children were CPS graduates and now her grandchildren have joined the Zebra family. When she is not spending time with her family or attending her grandchildren’s sporting events/activities, she enjoys traveling, reading, and shopping!
She received her Masters in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma and her Bachelors in Social Work from Kansas State University and has a specialty certification as a sexual abuse specialist.

School counselors are highly educated, professionally certified individuals who help students succeed in school and plan their careers. An integral part of the total education system, school counselors help students form healthy goals, mindsets, and behaviors. With the aid of a school counselor, students learn to develop effective collaboration and cooperation skills, practice perseverance, develop time management and study skills, and learn self-motivation and self-direction habits.
We have three counselors and a secretary, the department's heartbeat, that serve our students and staff at CHS. Each day we will post a feature about them individually. We encourage you to go by their office, send them a note, or comment on our FB page a message thanking them.

Anyone recognize this song?
HINT:
Man streckt den linken Arm ein, den linken Arm aus
Ein, aus, ein, aus
Man schüttelt alles rum
Man macht das Hokey-Kokey und man dreht sich herum
Das ist die ganze Sache
Ja, das Hokey-Kokey
Knie gebeugt, Arme gestreckt
Ra, ra, ra
Mrs. Hernandez's class had a little fun doing the Hokey Pokey in German.
Who was your foreign language teacher(s)?

What an outstanding award for our program, school, and community. Countless hours of blood, sweat, and tears by coaches, players, parents, and many members from our great city recognized by the National High School Baseball Coaches Association. Legendary Legion Field was named as one of the top high school fields in the nation. This award is for anyone who has ever held a rake or paintbrush, pulled the tarp, flew their helicopter over the field to dry it 🤷♂️, or donated their time and/or money!

Mr. Greenland's College & Career class hosted guest speaker, Matt Mason from RCB Bank, who talked to the students about credit scores, loans, and budgeting.
Mr. Greenland has a complete distance learning set up in his classroom, so his quarantined students were also logged in for the presentation.

A dynamic high school science curriculum is designed to spark interest in the fields of science and medicine, in addition to exposing students to exciting careers. Mr. McQueen's Biomed class at CHS, completed a blood-testing lab. This interactive, hands-on learning experience gives students the opportunity to become familiar with the fascinating field of hematology.

This special assistance is a one time opportunity. Students already in concurrent classes have their tuition waived in a cooperative agreement with local colleges. This GEAR UP grant will result in CHS students who pass those classes receiving FREE college credit.
Claremore High School has 30 students taking advantage of the concurrent agreement and will leave high school with college credit.

A picture is worth a thousand words. We hear it all the time. It can be especially helpful when communicating in our digital world to show a picture of something rather than typing it out. Or, maybe there is a certain point to be made by saving a portion of what is on the computer screen. Using the Windows Snip & Sketch application will help accomplish that.
This #TechTipTuesday will demonstrate the many ways Microsoft’s Snip & Sketch can be used to capture images of what is on a computer screen and shared, posted, or saved for later reference.

A call went out this afternoon at 3:20 pm to all our CHS Zebra families concerning the following items. If you did not receive that call, please update your information on the parent portal or contact the school office.
NEW Distance Learning GUIDELINES - Towards the end of 2nd block we had students quarantining (or distance learning) on a voluntary basis. At the beginning of the 3rd block this will not be allowed. If you are NOT comfortable with traditional in person school, then you need to enroll in our virtual program. Please contact your counselor if this pertains to you, and you did not fill out an enrollment form to show that you were changing to virtual. Otherwise, our counselors have reached out to all students that have changed their placement from 1st term to 2nd term. We are very excited to see some new faces back in the high school for the new year!
SCHEDULES - On Monday morning (Jan. 4th), we will have schedules available at tables outside of the two entrances.
- Student Drop Off will have Freshmen and Sophomores (Southwest entrance).
- Student Entrance will have Juniors and Seniors (East entrance).
Schedule Changes - Go to your 1st hour, even if you think it’s wrong. A Google Form will be sent to your school email address for any changes that need to be addressed. Counselors will call in students for schedule changes.
COVID PROTOCOLS - Please adhere to the COVID protocols sent out by the District earlier today.
Remember to bring and wear your own mask. We can not continue to supply these for students that habitually forget theirs.

Good afternoon, these past few weeks have been an excellent respite for our Zebra families, but we are now ready to embrace the educational opportunities 2021 will bring. Tomorrow, Jan. 4th, classes will resume at their regularly scheduled time at all our sites.
We will continue to implement our COVID protocols: wear a mask, watch our social distancing, and frequently wash hands . Please come prepared with the mask that was provided at the beginning of the year or a personal one.
As we continue to mitigate the COVID-19 virus, we ask you, please stay home and contact your principal immediately if you have any of the following within the last week:
1. have been in direct contact with a COVID case,
2. had a positive test within the 10 days
3. are waiting on the results of a COVID test, or
4. are showing any symptoms.
We look forward to the lightbulb moments, personal growth, and all our Zebras filling up the halls with the laughter, chatter, and smiles they bring with them.
