Today is National Read Across America Day!
Read Across America Day was created by the National Education Association as a reading initiative to celebrate reading. There are several ways to celebrate Read Across America Day - we shared our favorites below.
-Pick up an interesting book and read it.
-More importantly, read with a child.
-Join your library.
-Read a book you’ve been meaning to read.
-Read a book you’ve read before. You may discover that it has new meaning to you since you last read it.
-Try reading aloud, even if it is just to yourself. It will make great practice for reading to children. (Hint, hint.)

My name is Linda Lopez. I am a paraprofessional for 1st/2nd grade. I have been in education for 19 years, and 10 of those have been with CPS.
I attended Jerry Lee College where I received a degree in cosmetology/reflexology.
I am married and have two daughters. I enjoy gardening, my dogs, and I love fall weather.
I love that Claremont is a small, family oriented school.

Today is a distance learning day, Zebra family!
One way to help distance learning go more smoothly, is to help your child learn how to focus. Here are some of our favorite tips and tricks:
1. Jump right into distance learning. The longer you put it off, the harder it can be to focus on it.
2. Limit directions to one or two at a time. Try not to overload your child with too many directions at once.
3. Set a timer. Set a timer for how long your child needs to work before having a snack or a break.
4. Try mindfulness. Mindfulness exercises can help improve behavior and ability to focus.
5. Be open to what works. Ask your child what works best for them. Some children prefer quiet to work, while others prefer background noise.
6. Direct focus back to the task. Come up with a signal for when your child's mind starts to wander. Practice this when you notice them getting off task.
