We are celebrating I Love to Read Month for the Month of February! There will be D.E.A.R (drop everything and read) times and dress up days weekly, in addition to a month-long reading challenge! Students will be sent home with a weekly reading log where they can log the # of pages read nightly. At the end of each week, the number will be tallied. At the end of the month, there will be class prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. 1st - Pizza for Lunch 2nd - Ice Cream at Lunch 3rd - Candy at Lunch Be on the lookout for those reading logs, parents!

This year, Literacy Night has gone virtual! We are so excited to be able to still offer a Literacy Night to our Claremont family! Mrs. Ward's first grade class has a classroom spider plant named "Spidey." Spider plants put off runners that grow smaller plants that when put in water grow roots and can be replanted! Spidey has grown enough that 16 plants have been harvested and put in water to root. Some students have already been able to take their very own spider plants home - while others will be bringing them throughout the rest of the week!

This week is National School Counseling Week! This week we hope to focus on the unique contribution our School Counselors have upon the public school system. School counselors are so important to our school buildings, and we would like to introduce you to ours, Mrs. Sheila Urbonas. When asked what influenced her to become a school counselor, she replied, "After being a first grade teacher and special education teacher for over twenty years, I thought I wanted to leave the education field. I received my masters in counseling from Southern Nazarene University with the plan to work for a counseling agency. I worked in that field for a short time, but really missed the education setting. I missed the camaraderie of working alongside educators and being in a building full of children. Becoming a school counselor is the best of both worlds!"

The grant will be used for the 30-40 hours of online training and materials in the Orton Gillingham Approach and graduate level professional development credits. Thank you to CPSF! We cannot wait to use what we learn in order to help Claremont students who struggle in the area of reading!

My name is Chelle Stadler and I teach Kindergarten. I have been in education for 20 years, 14 of those being with CPS. I attended NSU where I received my Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood and Masters of Education in Reading. I have been married for 22 years and have 2 children. Hannah is an Elementary Education major at Oklahoma State University. Max is a Senior at Claremore High School and plays football and sings in the Jazz Choir. I love to spend time with my family at the lake and camping. I also love to crochet. Claremont teachers love their students!
