Did you know that reading aloud with children is known to be the single most important activity for building the knowledge and skills they will eventually require for learning to read? One of the greatest gifts you can give to your child is to read aloud - wonderful books - to them every day! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

May is National Speech Language Pathologist month! What is a SLP? "Speech-language pathologists, also called SLPs, are experts in communication. SLPs work with people of all ages, from babies to adults. SLPs treat many types of communication and swallowing problems including: speech sounds, language, social communication, voice, fluency, etc." We might be a little biased, but at Claremont, we believe we have the best SLP's there are! We are so thankful for Mrs. Harden and for her intern, Julia! Fun fact: Julia will be joining CPS as an additional hired SLP for the next school year! Congratulations to Landon Wheat, one of 5 students to make it to the Sodexo Nationals! Landon's recipe was chosen as to go on to represent Claremont, Claremore Public Schools, and Oklahoma!! Way to go Landon!!

We want to give a huge thank you to an anonymous donor who gave money to our library! This was used to purchase book bins for our fiction and picture book sections. Having forward facing books helps students to be more independent library users and have more autonomy in their book choices. Thank you! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

May 1st is National Principal's Day and we couldn't pass up another opportunity to celebrate Mrs. Fay! We are so thankful to have Mrs. Fay at Claremont! Our student teachers are amazing! Mrs. Leifheit read "My Mouth is a Volcano" and then made a volcano with 1st graders in Mrs. Ward's class. As the year winds down, many times a review of expectations is needed, and this was such a fun way to remind students to show respect while others are speaking. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Mrs. Johnston's 2nd graders also learned all about plants! Activities included learning about pollination, sprouting, and chlorophyll rubbing! Students had a blast learning all about what plants do for each other and for us! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Testing 5th graders were greeted with locker posters and red carpets rolled out in their classroom entrances. Kindergarten students sure made these 5th graders feel loved and supported on their 1st day of testing! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

3rd, 4th and 5th grade GT students studied Oil Derricks and created one of their own. With only tape, straws and paper clips, students were challenged to see who could build the tallest and most sturdy! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

3rd graders LOVE board games and puzzles! Thanks to a grant from our CPS Foundation, puzzles, board games and card games are a part of some of the things students get to enjoy while waiting to test, or once finished with testing! Thank you, Claremore Public Schools Foundation!! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE
