On this #wellnesswednesday, we want to give some ideas for keeping your child active while at home. Winter weather days can make things difficult - especially when children cannot get outside to move their muscles. Here are some ideas for helping them to "get the wiggles out" while at home. Make commercial time, exercise time. ... Play video games that incorporate movement. ... Incorporate small dance parties throughout the day. ... Do a clean-up sprint. ... Build an indoor obstacle course. ... Hold a scavenger hunt... #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Kindergarten students work on decodable books during their Science of Reading whole group instruction time! The Science of Reading is designed to give students a solid foundation in: phonemic awareness, letter sounds, word building, and decodable reading. Here, students are reading decodable books based on the current CVC (consonant/vowel/consonant) words they have previously learned. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

On this #wellnesswednesday, we want to share how important it is to encourage positive self-talk in your children. Self-talk is your inner voice, or the conversation in your head throughout waking hours. Positive self talk is talking to yourself in a kind, reassuring and optimistic way. This is so important for children, because what they learn now is what they will do into adulthood. Here are 6 strategies to teach and practice positive self talk: 1. Model it 2. Create a list of positive self-talk statements 3. Talk about the benefits of positive self-talk 4. Incorporate crafts as a way to remember to use positive self-talk 5. Practice changing negative talk into positive 6. Talk about real-life situations where using positive self talk might be difficult #CPSZEBRAPRIDE
