"Good phonics instruction is about learning the architecture of words, what they are made of. It's about putting them together and taking them apart."
-Heidi Anne Mesmer
Phonics instruction is so important - even for 3rd grade! Did you know that phonics instruction teaches students how to decode letters and their sounds? In third grade, students develop a more advanced phonemic awareness, phonics knowledge and decoding skill which allows them to develop fluent reading.

It’s Bus Safety Week and the CPS Transportation Department is introducing their staff and additional safety service for all of our buses - GPS! This technology has been added to all their buses and is now connected to the Stopfinder App which will allow families to get real-time information concerning the bus their child is on.

On this #wellnesswednesday, we want to stress the importance of safety for our morning bike riders. Here are some tips for ensuring your child is safe getting to school:
- Make sure your child wears a backpack or jacket with reflective material whenever riding to school.
- Talk to your children about the importance of following all of the rules of the road. Make sure they know what those rules are.
- Instruct your child to only ride on well-lit roads or stick to the sidewalks.

Spiders and Snakes and Crows, OH MY!

5th grade students can "Show YOU the Money!"
Students in Ms. Anderson and Ms. Bailey's classes spent time in small groups working with real money learning how to make change. This experience afforded students real-life, hands-on exposure to how what they are learning now can be used in their near futures, and some of them got to use what they learned at the Book Fair!

4th grade students 'got cranial' with a Mystery Science Halloween activity.
For this activity, students learned about the structure and function of their skulls. They combined science with art as they examined their own heads and made discoveries about their skulls.

Our neighboring church, First Baptist, is always willing to support our school community. Their generosity to our teachers, students, and families has afforded our school a replacement laminator. This machine will benefit our classrooms greatly!
We want to extend our gratitude to First Baptist Church - You can be sure that teachers all over the building rejoiced - a working laminator is a BIG deal!
THANK YOU, FBC Claremore! From all of us at Claremont!
