What are magnets used for? Everyone knows magnets hold artwork on the fridge, but did you know they are used to slow down roller coasters? They can be used on trucks to clean roads, and are in most electronic devices. Mrs. Tietz Physical Science class learned all about magnets while using them in a magnetism lab.

Did you ever volunteer to show your work for the entire class? Mrs. Campbell's students were working on a review and volunteered to show their work to the class and explain their thinking! They explained and took questions from other students. What great class involvement!

My name is Kimberly Gillispie. I grew up in McAlester, Oklahoma, where I graduated from high school. After high school, I attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. This school year will be my 15th year teaching. I love working with young people in a career where I know I am making a difference. The rock cycle describes transitions through geologic time among the three main rock types: sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous. Students in Mrs. Simpson's class replicated the rock cycle using starburst candy! First, they cut the starburst into pieces to use as sediments, then stuck them together to act as the Sedimentary rock. After this, they squished them together to form a Metamorphic rock. The last step is to heat it slightly using a microwave to turn the Metamorphic rock into Magma. Once it cools, they had an Igneous rock!

What is music theory? Music theory is the study of the practices and possibilities of music. Our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Choir students worked on music theory project presentations. They learned about music notation, created a diagram presentation, and taught the music notation lesson to the class!

Fridays with Frazier moves from COVID and computers to the magic that happens in the classroom.
This week we feature Mrs. Laurie Titsworth’s Pre-K class at Westside Elementary School, where they incorporated the magic of the season to teach letters, sounds, reinforce colors, introduce graphing, all tied together with a bow and a book.
