Morgan and Gentry, Claremont Elementary students, have created a workspace on their kitchen table to complete their distance learning assignments.
Here are some additional tips for successful distance/virtual learning.
Let's start with a productive study environment.
𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲 - make a plan and stick to it. Whether you start early in the morning or at noon - start on time and move through the day with purpose. Set a timer to stay focused, give yourself intermittent breaks, but don't stray too long. Remember to finish your assignments for the day. Don't put off to tomorrow what you can do today.
𝗙𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 - You want to be comfortable, but not so comfortable that you fall asleep (studying in bed is not always the best option). Choose a desk, table, or bar - creating a designated space, so children know it's school time.
𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 - A study space that is not appropriately lit may make you feel sleepy and put a strain on your eyes. Adjust the lighting to make sure your screen contrast is comfortable to look at while working. Natural light is sufficient, but make sure the temptation to look out of the window doesn't distract you from your studies.
𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 - Have all the study materials you need to hand and ONLY the study materials to remove distractions. Keep traditional school supplies in a designated area.
𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲 - A tidy and efficient desktop is a useful desktop, whether it's your real desk or on your computer.
𝗣𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 - In this day and age, it might seem like an unrealistic request, but detaching from your smartphone while studying (unless you are studying on your phone) will allow you to get down to some serious work.
𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 - You may be the kind of person who enjoys a little background noise when studying. However, keep it at a low volume and make sure it's something you don't have to turn your attention to and manage often.
𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 - Make sure that the study space you have created is only used for studying, if possible. This space physically represents your dedication and focus on achieving your goals for the day. If it's impossible to have a dedicated space, make sure you can transform an appropriate area to and from your dedicated study space as seamlessly and tidily as possible.
We understand that studying online takes dedication and discipline, but the advantages of getting your study method, space, and routine set up are totally worth it. Follow these tips to make sure you give yourself the best chance to succeed when distance or online learning and make your study space the place where learning happens.

Today we celebrate the people who first called this land home. We remember the struggles and tragedies they endured. We honor their place in and contributions to the shared story of America.

We all started out with a range of technology skills when the school year began in August - teachers, parents, and students. Each week we all become more experienced in these skills that are necessary to be successful in today's world. However, it's not just about today's world but the world 5, 10, 20 years from now.

The Cherokee Nation will be providing drive-thru vaccine clinics around NE Oklahoma October-December.
Cherokee Nation citizens and their families, including non-Native family members living in the household. Ages 6 months or older can get a flu vaccine for free from the convenience of their vehicles.
For a complete Cherokee Nation flu vaccination schedule, also visit health.cherokee.org/community-flu-clinics.
“The viruses that cause influenza and COVID-19 will both be spreading through our communities this fall and winter and you can potentially become infected with both,” said Roger Montgomery, executive medical director for Cherokee Nation Health Services. “Getting a flu shot won’t prevent COVID-19 infection but it will reduce your chance of getting influenza. Please take advantage of the proven protection that comes from getting a flu shot.”

October is National Principal Month and we have the best! Thank you Mr. Young for being a great role model to our students! We are so glad to have you!
