6th grade Science classes are doing a Winter STEM Challenge where the students have to build a skier out of foil, tape, and popsicle sticks. The skier must look like a person and stay upright. They have to send them down the ramp to "ski". The skier with the fastest time WINS!

Here are some of Mrs. James' science class doing the Winter STEM Challenge. The skier with the fastest time WINS! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE
More EGG DROP PICTURES! Here are some pictures of egg saving contraptions built by Mrs. Newbury’s Earth Science classes. Students did an amazing job!

The winter choir concert was held at the PAC Tuesday evening, where our WRJH choir sang several seasonal songs as a combined choir and as separate individual age levels. We celebrated the many 6th grade students who made Circle The State With Song (honor choir festival occurring in February), students who made All District Honor Choir (8 JH students made NCDA All District Honor Choir), and cheered on the two students who made it to second round All State auditions. We also recognized Lacey Arthur for making All State Honor Choir.
The evening was fun and festive and the students glowed with the great accomplishment of performing songs on which they've worked hard all semester to provide a quality concert for the audience and to exhibit positive performance and audience member etiquette according to Oklahoma Academic Standards.

7th grade Science classes are studying meal worms! They are determining how the meal worm responds to different stimuli by giving them different surfaces to move on and measuring how far they go.

More MEAL WORMS! Friday was Mrs. Westfall's science students turn to study meal worms. They used meal worms to see how animal behaviors help maintain homeostasis, a steady internal state. They manipulated variables to get more accurate results.

Saturday was the first Claremore Robotics tournament of the season and it went well! We had 39 teams from across the state competing. We also had six former TSA students who came back to help our current students, as well as 17 volunteers who helped judge. The Claremore Robotics students competed well. Team 9142A won the Design Award for the second time this season and team 8634A won the Excellence Award at their first tournament of the year. Congratulations to all of the students and a big thanks to the community and current and former TSA students for volunteering! If you are interested in seeing our next Claremore Robotics tournament, it will be held February 15th. It’s free and fun for everyone to see! Competitions begin around 10am and end at 4pm.

Mrs. Westfall won a free hour of a Tulsa Zoo presentation and the 7th grade Enriched Science classes got to participate. They are studying animals and behaviors in class and the Tulsa Zoo had a great presentation for the students using live animals. One of the students dressed up like an owl, showing the different characteristics of them and how they react.

At Claremore Public Schools, we strive to create a work atmosphere for our teachers and staff that is collaborative, supportive, and stimulating. A productive learning environment for students depends on the ability of our teachers to share ideas and best practices with other educators and to have access to the most up-to-date training in the field of education. By recruiting the very best education professionals, we can be sure of the continued success of our students. Today teachers will meet with their PLC groups the last hour of the day.

Can you design a system that will protect an egg from a fall? That's an Egg Drop Project! Our 8th grade Science classes are trying this experiment. Students try to build a structure that will prevent a raw egg from breaking when dropped from a certain height. When creating this, they must try a design that would reduce the amount of energy transferred from potential to kinetic energy on the egg shell, keeping the shell from breaking. Mrs. Dixon's class had 2 successful egg drops, and lots that weren't so successful!

to me
My name is Marin Carter, and I am a 6th grade English teacher at WRJH. I chose Will Rogers Junior High because I felt a call to the city of Claremore, and more specifically, to the students of Claremore. I have loved my first year of teaching here, and I couldn’t ask for better faculty to surround myself with.

Ms. Lohmann's 6th grade Advanced Math class took what they knew about combining like terms to solve a puzzle. When you make it fun, learning is easy!

EDIT- We will be leaving WRJH at 9:00am both days!
