Students in Mr. Berglunds classes are studying westward expansion. After learning about Lewis and Clark and their journey, they traveled the same path playing the video game Oregon Trail! The top scores for each class are earning some awesome Arby's coupons.

Mrs. Stout’s 7th grade geography students demonstrated their knowledge of Africa’s physical features by creating 3D models out of Play-Doh. Check out how good some of these models are! How creative!

8th grade students conducted a Gallery Walk on the Civil War in their English classes. Students rotated through 6 stations (pictures, poems, propaganda cards, books, articles, and videos) to read and look at artifacts about the Civil War. They will begin reading a novel about the Civil War called Soldier's Heart by Gary Paulsen.

History in the making?! Coach Dexter's History classes are reviewing their history concepts covered in the fall. They are making movie posters over the American Revolution. Learning all about history is more fun when you start creating exciting posters for events like the Battle of Saratoga, Battle of Bunker Hill, the Life of Nathan Hale, and The Crossing of the Delaware. Plus, you get to work together in the commons!

What do you do with cilantro? You make salsa of course!
Growing Beyond Earth is a classroom-based citizen science project operated in partnership with NASA, designed to advance NASA research on growing plants in space. Our 6th grade STEM students collected data on the growth of Cilantro and Basil to test its viability and ability to grow in a simulated ISS (International Space Station) growth chamber. After we gathered all of our data and submitted it to NASA, we celebrated & ate salsa!

What is a chemical formula? In chemistry, a chemical formula is a way of presenting information about the chemical proportions of atoms that constitute a particular chemical compound . In Coach Gregg's Science class, students are practicing writing chemical formulas.

Do you know what a phosphate is? Nucleotides? Mrs. Tietz's students do!
Students in Mrs. Tietz's Science class are taking phosphates, deoxyribose sugar and an organic base and making nucleotides. They then take the nucleotides and make a short strand of DNA.

In Mrs. Perry's Science class, students are sorting compounds and mixtures. Students are learning the difference between them. Compounds are formed by chemically combining two or more elements. Mixtures are formed by physically mixing two or more substances.

Congratulations to these students who made the GCBDA Honor Band! These students will perform in a concert the last weekend in January at the Robson PAC. We can't wait to watch them!
