In Mrs. Styers' classes, students are doing an equivalent ratio card sort. Two ratios that have the same value are called equivalent ratios. To find an equivalent ratio, you have to multiply or divide both quantities by the same number.

The Cyber-World can be a scary place!
WRJH had some great guest speakers! Special Agent Martin and Computer Forensic Analyst Meter, from Department of Homeland Security Investigations, visited our students to speak on the dangers of Cyber Space. They spoke about cyber bullying, online predators, and cyber security. Students were engaged and interested in what they were learning!
Thank you for your visit on this very important subject!

What does a student athlete do between sports? They CONDITION! 💪🏼
Athletic Conditioning (Athcon) is the class that our athletes attend in between their sport. This keeps the athlete maintaining their fitness while waiting on their next sport to start.
And it's a work out!

For Black History Month, Mrs. Hurt's class read the book Almost to Freedom by Vaunda Micheaux Nelson. Students enriched their vocabulary and used context clues from the text to determine the definition. We reviewed our learning targets while reading and discussing this book. Our review was over the plot diagram (characters, setting, problem, solution, resolution) , theme, point of view, genre, and character conflict.

What would you do differently if you could go back and retrace Lewis and Clark's journey? Students in Coach Dexter's History classes played a computer game version of Lewis and Clark's trail. They were able to see the decisions made and decide if they would do the same or change the way they explored!

How much should I tip?
Students in 7th grade Math classes are learning some great life lessons about how to order, tip, and total a restaurant tab while working on their percent unit. One of our essential standards is to be able to accurately add or subtract tax, tip, and discounts. We practiced this by using real menus and the teachers as waitresses. Students were able to create their own order. Then they were responsible to add tax and tip using percent!

Is Mrs. Williams class playing GO FISH?
Last week Mrs. Williams' class learned about the opening of the biggest aquarium in the world. The aquarium is in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The aquarium has a huge tank that holds almost 7 million gallons of water. The class conducted an experiment exploring the surface tension of water using dish soap, orange juice and plain water. They learned that dish soap can lower the surface tension of water and changed how their "fish" moved in water.

Helping students find their place in space!
Mrs. Rahn spent a few days training like an astronaut in a scuba diving session and learning authentic, engaging lessons on space exploration at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX! She attended the Space Exploration Educators Conference with Ashley Henry from Catalayah.
“I’m excited to bring back these amazing lessons taught by NASA experts & teachers to my students who are the Artemis Generation. I love sharing job opportunities to students with STEM concepts in action!”
We love it, too, Mrs. Rahn!

Ever wonder what it's like to control a camera on the International Space Station?
Mrs. Rahn's students found out by setting in the Latitude and Longitude along the ISS's path.
Leland Melvin, NASA's associate administrator for education. "EarthKAM allows these future scientists and engineers to take an active role in research about the space station, and that truly honors the vision and legacy of Sally Ride. Students also learned about Leland Melvin and his role as a NASA educator and his past career as an NFL player for the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys. Melvin had an injury that led him to fall back on his degree in engineering and to apply to NASA to become an astronaut. He flew two space missions and is a great example of our Life Principle word this week of Resiliency.
Melvin is also an avid STEM educator and photographer. WRJH 6th Grade STEM students had an opportunity to request photographs from space using the Sally Ride EarthKam Mission that Leland Melvin promotes...here are a few locations Mrs. Rahn's students requested from the International Space Station last week:
