What is a handprint project? Ask a student from Mrs. Mercer's class!
Students created borders and handprint designs using repetition. The students learned about stream of consciousness writing, where the writer writes whatever comes to mind in any order. This is a writing technique that is used to brainstorm ideas and get them on paper before writing. Students used this style to fill in the empty spaces with information about themselves!
It was such a fun and creative project!

Who doesn't love Book Clubs?
Mrs. Mercer's students participated in Book Clubs during the last few weeks of school. Students read novels independently. They’re analyzing plot, figurative language, quotes, literary devices and more! Once a week, the students met with other kids in the class who are reading the same book. They discussed what they’ve read, learned, and analyzed. The discussions were entirely student led and based on what they want to discuss and dig deeper into. The only rule: conversations must be about their book!

What better way to study the phases of the moon than to use Oreo cookies!
Mrs. Tietz's Science classes used Oreos to learn about the moon and how it changes! The moon is seen by light from the sun. As the moon moves around Earth, the amount of illumination it receives from the sun changes, creating the lunar phases. Students used the middle of the Oreo to recreate this!

Do you know how to find the mean, median, and range? In Mrs. Styers' class, they folded and flew paper airplanes to work on mean, median, and range. What a fun way to learn about math!

In Mrs. Edward's speech classroom, students learned articulation and language skills.
Students did well in how to correctly articulate our speech sounds and anything language related such as antonyms, synonyms, multiple meanings of words, irregular plurals/verbs, analogies and even how to tell if someone is stating a factor or just an opinion. I have seen my students really encourage one another and seen positive growth and seen confident students leave at the end of each class.

WRJH Girls’ STEM Club had a few special guests from CF Industries! Engineers from CF Industries came and helped the girls build solar robots that they gifted them!
The girls had a great time learning from local engineers and hearing a little about their careers. Each girl received a solar robot and a book about women engineers and scientists.
Thank you CF Industries for helping our girls see their future in engineering!

We had a great time at the 8th grade promotion ceremony! Thank you to our principals, teachers, students and parents for making it a success! We learned a lot on our first one, and hope to do better each year going forward!
