1st grade students got to experience a rare treat last week, as an extension to what they had been learning about Veterans Day. Mrs. Stadler invited some very special guests to show our first graders how to correctly fold the American flag.

Our school counselor, Mrs. McMillan, reads to Kindergarten about the importance of hygiene. They absolutely loved her visit to the class and cannot wait for her to come read to them again!

2nd grade students in Mrs. Johnston's class practice place value during rotations in class.
Place value provides the foundation for regrouping, multiple-digit multiplication and more in the decimal system. Almost ALL mathematical concepts build upon the important foundation of place value!

FRIDAYS WITH FRAZIER
Congratulations to our eight Site Teacher of the Year recipients. Their colleagues chose them to represent their site for consideration for the 2021-2022 Claremore Public Schools Teacher of the Year, announced later this month.
Over the next several months, each teacher will create a dossier including a personal biography and essays on education issues and trends, community involvement, philosophy of teaching, and the teaching profession. A committee will review these documents, a lesson video and host an interview with each candidate.
Stay tuned to learn more about each of these fantastic teachers and why their peers choose them to represent their school. The District Teacher of the Year will be announced in the spring of 2022.

Students in Mrs. Proctor's 3rd grade class are beginning to learn multiplication by understanding the patterns contained in the multiplication chart.
The Domino Spiral is a fun hands-on way to choose the factors being used for the activity. Students started at the beginning of the dominos and worked their way to the middle of the spiral, multiplying factors and writing down the following or proceeding multiples.
This process helps students memorize their multiplication facts by understanding the patters they make.

It's getting colder outside, and that means cold and flu season. On this Wellness Wednesday, as we enter into the cold and flu season, we want to share the 5 must have items for parents to have on hand.
1. A Working Thermometer
-An infrared or digital thermometer is best.
2. Saline Spray
-For younger children, a nose aspirator or nasal bulb will also come in handy.
3. Fever-Reducing Medications
-While these medications wont treat the root cause, they are helpful for quick relief.
4. Sore Throat Remedies
-Warm liquids such as broth or hot water with lemon, honey, or icy treats like popsicles are great for relieving a sore throat.
5. Hand Soap and Cleaning Products
-Teaching and practicing proper hand-hygiene is one of the best ways to keep your child from catching a winter illness in the first place!

Kindergarten students had so much fun for Pumpkin Week!
Some of their fun activities included: painting pumpkins, opening a pumpkin to see and feel what is inside, and planting pumpkin seeds! Students were also given "witch fingers" to wear when reading and practicing sight words.
What a FUN week!

"We Fancy Like Applebees!"
During their unit on decimals, 5th graders created a restaurant! As teams, they were tasked with coming up with the layout of the restaurant, deciding which food and drinks to serve, and how much each item costs. Then, students went through a game-like scenario where they had to use their knowledge of decimals to budget, purchase materials, and then count back change to customers.

Question: How much weight can an aluminum foil boat float?
Mrs. Howell's 2nd grade class engaged in a STEM lesson to figure this out! Students made little "boats" out of aluminum foil to explore how their size affects how much weight they carry and how this relates to the density of water.

"Writing, to me, is simply thinking through my fingers." - Isaac Asimov
2nd grade students write about a photo! In this exercise, students are given a photo and then get to write about what they see, about how the photo makes them feel, and about what they might want to do in the time, place or event that the photo takes place in.
Writing allows students to learn to express their thoughts, creativity and uniqueness. It is fundamental to learning to think critically, organize and communicate ideas, and make thinking visible and permanent.
