On this Wellness Wednesday, we want to challenge you to rethink your drink!
Do you know how much sugar is in your drink? What about your child's drink? Sugar is one of the leading causes of obesity in children, and can contribute to other health issues as well. It is important to be aware of how much sugar your child consumes on an average day, and one way to minimize the amount of sugar consumed is through monitoring what they drink!
Some better-for-them drink choices are:
*Water
*100% Juice
*Milk
*Fruit infused water

Students in Mrs. Tidwell's class love STEM Bins!
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, these students use STEM Bins as a part of their morning routine. This is such a great way to assist students in easing their way into the school day and allowing them space to get their minds thinking creatively and critically.

1st graders in Mrs. Peck's class work together to create a bar graph of which food each student likes most - giving them the ability to see and compare the different food preferences in the class.
Bar graphs are such a great visual tool for students because it shows information as an image or picture - for students who are still learning to read, this is a great way to differentiate instruction for them.

Last week, Kindergartners sorted apples, measured the circumference of an apple, tasted and graphed our favorite apple, found the star inside of an apple, painted with apples and made applesauce.

Mrs. Ramsey, our reading specialist, spends time with each student in our school. During this time, she begins building a relationship with the student, evaluates the student, and identifies what the student will need to succeed in his or her journey to reading fluency and success.

We love game-based learning!
Did you know that game based learning allows students to be more of an active participant in their learning as they are exposed to new content?
Students in Mrs. Johnston's 2nd grade class practice sight words and high frequency words with a Fall Spell and Roll game. Students draw a card, and then spell the word on their recording sheet - if they get the spelling correct, they get to move either one or two spaces, depending on the difficulty of the word.
