Pre-K loves centers!
Did you know that centers can help Pre-K students grow socially while also becoming more self-aware? The time that students spend in centers increases time management skills, regulation skills and even helps students to identify their own interests.

3rd grade students in Mrs. Millsap's class are working on growth mindset - curating the ability to push past failures and continue making progress.
Mrs. Millsap read The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires and tasked students with building a free-standing tower that can support a bucket using only straws, a cup, yarn, tape and scissors. The bucket must be suspended and be able to hold weight.
Students used their critical thinking skills to plan out their design and then brought their designs to life and tested their weight bearing ability.

In an introduction to Growth Mindset - the belief that with work, your skills can improve over time - 2nd graders in Mrs. Johnston's class read The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes and then worked together in pairs on a STEM activity.
For this STEM activity, students were challenged to design and build a broom and dustpan - using only construction paper and tape - to clean up the mistakes we all inevitably make.

On this Wellness Wednesday, we want to share the importance of family meals. Did you know that children who help prepare new foods are more inclined to try them? AND, children who share meals with their family do better in school, too!
Here are some tips on making family meals happen, provided by togethercounts:
Start where you are:
If you never eat together as a family, start with a birthday or other celebration. If you eat together one night a week, aim for two.
Make the meal happen:
Things are easier to fit into schedules when we make them habits or rituals. When you are organizing your calendar, put dinner in first. Make a shared meal the rule, not the exception.
Make it important:
Let all family members know that the family meal is important. It will help everyone get to the table and, once there, best take advantage of the time together.
Give them something to do:
If you’re dining with kids, make them part of the group by giving age-appropriate activities (passing out forks, helping clean up) and conversation to help them participate.

Did you know that centers allow for students to learn in one of the most meaningful ways: hands on experience?

3rd grade students in Mrs. Millsap's class had quite the experience in their "Genre Café" where they had the opportunity to explore different genres of books in small groups to give them a better understanding of both the genre classification and which genres they might like best.

5th grader's in Mrs. Tidwell's class had fun with a STEM activity to see who could stack pencils the highest!
We love building STEM activities into lessons here at Claremont, because it allows our students to think creatively and critically about how to solve a problem.
