On this #wellnesswednesday, we want to stress the importance of reading together as a family. Even if your child is old enough to read on their own, it is still important for them to be read aloud to.
Reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word.
What are you reading together as a family? Tell us in the comments.

"My name is Jenny Freeman and I am a reading paraprofessional. I have been in education for 5 years, am married and have a step-son, son, and daughter. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends!"
"I teach because I love our students at CPS. Especially, the Claremont babies. I hope everyday to encourage, inspire or help as many people/kids as I can. One smile or hug can make all the difference. Their joy and excitement is contagious and I hope to always hold on to that."

1st graders are growing so much in their writing abilities!
Did you know that journal writing gives students time to organize their thoughts to prepare appropriate responses? This gives students extra confidence in participating in all areas of the classroom.
Journaling also helps teachers learn more about their students!

YOU CAN CHANGE THE WORLD!
5th graders witnessed an environmental demonstration on how our waters can get so polluted, and what we can do to make a change.

Have you ever written a fictional narrative?
5th graders can say that they have! A fictional narrative is a made-up story and most novels and short stories are fictional narratives.
Our 5th grade students have been working on planning and writing a fictional narrative - do you have a 5th grader? Ask them if you can read their narrative!

On this #wellnesswednesday, we want to remind you to keep moving - even when indoors!
When the weather is cold, it can be challenging to even want to spend time outside. That is why it is important to look for innovative ways to keep moving, and keep your children off of the couch.
Here are some ideas we love:
-play hopscotch
-have an indoor scavenger hunt
-explore in play tents
-find a children's yoga program online
All of these ideas can be accomplished without needing extra space, and they are a great way to keep your kids moving! How do you encourage movement when its too cold to go outside?

"My name is Ashley Troyer and I am the Library Media Specialist. I have been in education for almost 3 years, and cannot imagine myself anywhere else. I am married and have 4 children, and have had the honor and privilege of being mom to several children through foster care. In my spare time I enjoy reading, family game night, family movie night, and traveling with my people."
"I teach because I understand the immense impact that educators have on the lives of our children - and I want to do my best to help the next generation grow to be kind, loving, empathetic, life-long learners. I teach because when I was a student, my librarian changed my life by introducing me to literature that I fell in love with - she was a light into my life at a very hard time. I want to be that for someone else."

Mrs. Ramsey is at it again! She’s always looking for opportunities to shower our students with literacy enriching opportunities.
Through a partnership with the RCLC - the Rogers County Literacy Council - 2nd and 3rd grade students each received books to add to their shelves at home!
Edel Godwin, the Executive Director, was thrilled to be able to share these books with our students - which was all made possible through funding from the Sarkeys Foundation.
Thank you, Rogers County Literacy Council!
