Dress for Success
My name is Shauna Johnston and I teach 2nd grade. I have been in education for 11 years and this is my first year at CPS. I attended Northeastern State University where I received a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I have been married to my husband Larry for 12 years. We are high school sweethearts and have the same birthday! We have a son, Zeke, who is a second grade student at Claremont. We love spending time together and doing anything together outdoors. We especially love the summer when we get to spend time at the lake! I love to do anything crafty, exercise and shop. My favorite quote is "Love one another."

This is #reallife. Many of our teachers not only spent their distance learning days creating lessons, conferencing with parents, and answering questions for their students but also worked with their own children on their distance learning lessons. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Something that might be helpful for your child during distance learning (and other high-stress times) is Peacock Posing. No supplies are needed, it takes as little as 5 minutes, and children ages 4 and up can benefit from up. Instructions: ask your child to focus their gaze on a point slightly below eye level. Then, ask them to stand on one leg and try to keep their eyes on the focal point. Next, try the other leg! To make the activity more challenging, engage your child in conversation or ask them to close their eyes during the pose. *This activity can be helpful while standing in line, waiting at the doctors office, or allowing time to re-focus during distance learning. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Last week, Claremont teachers came together to offer a version of the Literacy Night we have come to know and love. COVID and the recent icy weather may have kept us from coming together but the result was still something to celebrate. Each grade level created their own Readers Theater for their students. Today, we give you... 4th Grade's Reader's Theater! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tm6GYOF4EZw
