The Oklahoma State Department of Education funded Ms. Broccard's Donors Choose project titled "Gamefied Reading."
This grant provided her classroom with intervention for small group activities that focus on topics such as: main idea, cause and effect, reading for details, making inferences and sequencing. The set also included comprehension activities.
Students use these in small group rotations to practice and review these skills!

What a phenomenal day for our 5th grade students who had the privilege to visit BizTown!
What is BizTown, you ask?
JA BizTown combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to a simulated town. This popular learning experience allows elementary school students to operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and vote for mayor. Students are able to connect the dots between what they learn in school and the real world.
This was such an amazing experience for this group of 5th graders - lots of fun and learning was had by all, and our students were even complimented by BizTown staff for how great they were the entire day!

"I have been given the opportunity to translate several times for the Claremore Police Department. Volunteering my Spanish skills was not something I initiated, but I am very honored to be asked for assistance. I translate documents, recordings, and conversations on behalf of students and adults alike. Just as I am passionate about serving our culturally-diverse students, I am also passionate that our culturally-diverse families feel safe in our community without barriers to using our legal system. I feel that this unique volunteer role specifically supports a strong community for our students."

On this #wellnesswednesday, we want to talk about weather preparedness. Feeling scared or unprepared can often lead to anxiousness in children. With spring severe weather, it's important to have a plan in place for what your family will do in the event of severe weather.
Here are a few things you can do to help your child feel prepared, and not scared.
-Watch the weather forecast. Be aware of any potential severe weather.
-Create a communication plan with your family. Have an emergency meeting place.
- Pick a safe room in your home and make sure everyone knows which room it is.
-Practice your severe weather safety plan.
Children can often feel out of control in severe weather situations, and that feeling can lead to anxiousness and fear. Planning ahead - and allowing your child to be a part of the planning process - can help him/her when severe weather happens.
