3rd grade students in Mrs. Proctor's class participate in an Exemplar Challenge!
An Exemplar Challenge is a practice that aids in a student's writing process by helping them to become more aware of what and how they write. For an Exemplar Challenge, students are given a pre-written essay and challenged to find and fix the errors that lie within.
This challenge develops writers who think more critically about their own writing.

Have you heard the TRUE STORY of the Puppeteer of Macy's Parade?
2nd graders learned all about Tony Sarg, puppeteer extraordinaire! Tony inspired the helium balloons that would one day become the trademark of the Macy's Parade.
After reading the story Balloons Over Broadway, written by Melissa Sweet, 2nd graders were challenged to design and create a parade balloon of their own!
Didn't they do a fabulous job?

Time to STRETCH!
Before beginning their gym activities, Mrs. Steuart always leads students in several stretching exercises.
Stretching helps move joints through a full range of motions, helping to keep ligaments and tendons flexible. It helps to prevent injury and improve athletic performance.

Since the beginning of the year, our Resource Teacher Mrs. Massey has been spending time with 4th graders working on spelling multi-syllabic words.
In this exercise, Mrs. Massey tells the students how many syllables are in the word, and then syllable by syllable goes through the word with the students until they are able to identify what it is at the end.
This is a great exercise in reading as well as spelling!

Mrs. Francis continues to encourage students to create art in and out of the school building. One way she does this, in addition to the Brag Wall, is to allow students days throughout the year where they get to create something on their own, using the supplies she has in the classroom.
These 5th grade boys chose to create landscapes using pastels - putting into practice what they had previously learned about creating landscape art, layering color, and planning ahead for what they wanted to draw.
