We all started out with a range of technology skills when the school year began in August - teachers, parents, and students. Each week we all become more experienced in these skills that are necessary to be successful in today's world. However, it's not just about today's world but the world 5, 10, 20 years from now.

Mrs. Gillispie's Physical Science class are studying energy transfer. They are building catapults and using pumpkins!

The 7th grade students are completing our unit on energy by building jousting cars. Students will begin tournament play and a grand prize winner will be chosen!

The Cherokee Nation will be providing drive-thru vaccine clinics around NE Oklahoma October-December.
Cherokee Nation citizens and their families, including non-Native family members living in the household. Ages 6 months or older can get a flu vaccine for free from the convenience of their vehicles.

“The viruses that cause influenza and COVID-19 will both be spreading through our communities this fall and winter and you can potentially become infected with both,” said Roger Montgomery, executive medical director for Cherokee Nation Health Services. “Getting a flu shot won’t prevent COVID-19 infection but it will reduce your chance of getting influenza. Please take advantage of the proven protection that comes from getting a flu shot.”

Learning about energy transfer through conduction, convection and radiation was a "popping" good time in Mrs. Boyd's class.

Mrs. Horn's Geography class has been studying natural disasters.
This week, they learned about preparedness and what should be in an emergency kit. The class created their own emergency kits with objects they thought were necessary in the case of a natural disaster.

Mrs. James' algebra class went on a scavenger hunt to solve equations with variables on both sides. Students had to work out a problem and search around the room and in the hallway for their answers. Lots of great analyzing happening!

Mrs. Newbury's 8th grade science class played tug of war while discussing forces. They tried to figure out when friction can help and hurt, and also define balance vs unbalanced forces.

GEAR UP is designed to prepare middle and high school students for college success through direct student support services, including college campus tours, ACT test preparation and testing, college exploration and preparation courses, leadership/STEM summer academies, and one-on-one guidance from education specialists. Oklahoma GEAR UP offers college access and financial aid information to students and families through awareness activities and services, including Oklahoma’s Promise and FAFSA completion assistance. The program provides collaboration and leadership opportunities for Oklahoma GEAR UP schools and works with them to implement Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), which help teachers and faculty address student achievement, academic interventions and common assessments.

Mrs. Boyd's science class are learning all about potential and kinetic energy. All forms of energy are either potential or kinetic energy. Potential refers to stored energy while kinetic is energy in motion. What better way to show how this works than to use HOT WHEELS!

Mrs. Boyd's Science class is learning about variables and CER (claim, evidence, reasoning) by using fortune fish! Students must be able to explain what is happening in experiments, because learning how to construct an explanation is an important part of all science experiments.
