Students in Art class are working hard on their Cubist self portraits. In Cubist artwork, objects are analyzed, broken up and reassembled in an abstracted form—instead of depicting objects from a single viewpoint, the artist depicts the subject from a multitude of viewpoints to represent the subject in a greater context.

In honor of the Labor Day holiday, CPS will be closed on Monday, September 6th.
Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers. It was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894. This weekend, as we spend time with our families and friends, celebrate the value of an honest day’s work, the people who built America, and our nation’s advancements because of the American labor force.

Students in Mrs. Worley's Science class practiced their measuring skills measuring bubbles! After measuring the bubbles, they used their graphing skills to graph the data they collected.

Mrs. Blankenship's students did an activity Thursday where they had to build towers using only index cards and 24 inches of tape. The tallest freestanding tower was 42 inches tall!
After working in teams, the class talked about what they wanted group/team work to look like in the class this year. They set their group expectations using the discussion.

Mrs. Tietz's Science classes are learning how to use lab equipment this week! Students are learning how to prep the equipment by disinfecting, assemble the specimen, and study what they see. 🔬
Hands on learning has great benefits for students in the classroom by retaining that knowledge!

Mr. Dexter's History class are discussing the John Peter Zenger trial this week.

Mrs. Gillispie's students are learning to work cooperatively to save Sam. Sam is stuck on a boat, and how he got there is not important, but Sam can't swim and the boat is capsized. To get to shore, Sam needs to retrieve a life jacket from underneath the boat so that he can float to shore. The task is to save Sam by retrieving the life jacket from under the boat and putting it on Sam. Unfortunately, the only tools to use are paperclips... they cannot touch Sam, the boat, or the life preserver with their bare hands.

Mrs. Naegele's students did a team building/problem-solving activity this week. The leader was the only team member allowed to touch the puzzle pieces. The hard part- the leader had to keep their eyes CLOSED!
The goal was for students to develop strategies for problem-solving, and develop the ability to communicate mathematically while working with a team.

In Mrs. Lane's English class, students are brainstorming for their personal narratives today. A personal narrative is a prose narrative relating personal experience usually told in first person; its content is nontraditional. "Personal" refers to a story from one's life or experiences.
I'm sure some of these stories were very memorable!
