It’s National Library Month and CPS wants you to get to know the names and faces of those who work with our students every day in our school libraries. A librarian or a more modern name is Library Media Specialist seems to have a book recommendation for everyone. With 20,000 titles in a library, there is always something for everyone. This week we will find out some of our CPS Library Media Specialist’s favorites.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻/𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀?
My children are grown now, but whenever they were small, we read Dr. Seuss books each night at bedtime. We had a subscription to the Dr. Seuss book club and we really enjoyed reading all of those books.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹-𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸?
Picking an all-time favorite book is a very difficult thing to do. Most often, my favorite book is whichever one I am currently reading. I do, however, have a favorite genre, which is historical fiction. I recently read "The Light in Hidden Places", by Sharon Cameron. Though it is fiction, it is based on real events and is set during the Holocaust. I highly recommend it.
I read a lot as a child, and some of my favorite books included, The "Ramona" collection, by Beverly Cleary, "Charlotte's Web", by E. B. White, "Where the Red Fern Grows" by Wilson Rawls, and "The Wizard of Oz'', by Frank L. Baum.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴?
I am currently reading "Class Act" by Jerry Craft. It is the sequel to his book "The New Kid", which won the 2020 Newbery Award. "The New Kid" is the first graphic novel to win that award and I enjoyed it so much that I'm excited to read the next book.

If you could go to any country you'd like, which one would you choose?
🌎
Students in Mrs. Shilling's Current Events class did a research presentation over interesting countries of their choice. They gathered five sources and used Google Slides to present about the countries and shared the countries demographics: location, population, geography, government, economy, language, and interesting facts they found about it!

Were new substances formed or not? 🧪
Mrs. Tietz's High School Physical Science class has been studying chemical and physical changes. One station has a reaction between baking soda and vinegar that blew up a balloon. One station had a reaction between liver and hydrogen peroxide. It bubbled and got hot. They formed a precipitate with ammonia and copper 2 sulfate. They turned water red, blew some bubbles, ate a cracker, put butane in a baggie and watched the baggie expand.

Delivery day! 🐶🐱
These students helped create a service project to honor December the National Month of "Santa Paws". They created a gift exchange for themselves and invited other classes to join! All gifts were cat and dog related items, so we could donate them to the Claremore Animal Shelter. We went to the animal shelter, got a great tour from Mrs. Jean Hurst, and learned about how the Animal Shelter serves our community and does a great job taking care of the animals and adopting them out to great homes. It was a great day!
