Mrs. Esau's class has an exciting classroom business called "Coffee Delight- Awesome Coffee for Teachers" that delivers coffee and treats to teachers every Friday. This Friday was extra special and featured a hot chocolate bar and beautifully decorated cart!
This project helps our kids with life skills like following directions, interview skills, social skills, money sense, as well as gives them a sense of pride in our school building.

Do you know what a neurographic painting is?
In Mrs. Roach's art classes, students are learning (and painting!) about Neurographic paintings. Neurographic art is a simple way to work with the subconscious mind through drawing.
If you can dream it, they can draw it!

In Mrs. Wood's computer class, they learned about how a satellite in space sends pixels to our devices to create our digital images! In a digital signal, the pixel values are listed in order so that the computer knows where they are located in the picture. One student acts as the satellite by telling his/her partner which box (or pixel) to fill in with what color. The other student acts as the computer and places the pixels correctly. So before they started, they had to come up with their own system on how they would transmit the data. And in the end they ended up with a Christmas picture! How cool!

How can you use evidence to determine if a change is physical or chemical?
In Mrs. Worley's class, students are finding evidence of a physical or chemical change. In a chemical change, there is a change in the composition of the substances. In a physical change, there is a difference in smell or appearance.

Who doesn't love pumpkin pie?🥧
Students in Mrs. Boyd's 7th grade Science classes are studying types of mixtures- homogeneous and heterogeneous. They made pumpkin pie in a bag to show a homogeneous mixture! It tasted pretty good, too!

How do you teach students about DNA structures? You use TWIZZLERS!
Students built DNA models out of twizzler candy. This was to help them practice matching up the organic bases together to make pairs. This also helped them visualize the double helix structure of DNA. And, they tasted pretty good, too!

In Mrs. Roach’s Art class, we’re filling all the fall vibes. We’re finishing up our abstract unit. What great artwork!

What are Mrs. Tietz's students doing in the commons?
They are learning about DNA and what it is made of. The students were doing a relay to build a model of DNA with the phosphate group, a deoxyribose sugar and the 4 bases: Adenine, Thymine, Guanine and Cytosine. The first group to build their half of the DNA correctly won!

Are Mrs. Gillispie's Science students jumping rope? No, they are recreating different types of mechanical waves using springs! They are also identifying parts of a wave such as amplitude and frequency.
You never know what fun activities will be happening in our hallways!

Mrs. Newbury's High School Physical Science classes have been working on forces and Newton's Laws. They have created Newton's Cradles and tried to save their eggs from breaking!

Mrs. Bacon and Mrs. Hurt's classes are learning about agriculture, pumpkins, Thanksgiving, and pumpkin pie! They made pumpkin pie in a bag!

Mrs. Newbury's 8th grade science classes were in a race to decode their string of DNA! The students had to build the nucleotides and identify the complementary bases. They have been learning about the structure as well as the function of our blueprints!

Can you speak in code?
Mrs. Rahn’s STEM students were spies this week sending coded messages to each other. They learned about coded languages like the Navajo Code Talkers and Morse Code. They designed & created Morse Code lighted transmitters. Professor Curt Sparling from RSU also visited and spoke to students about why the military uses coded messages, careers in cyber security and helped students make a cypher wheel.

How many eggs survived the fall?
Our high school physical science classes have studied Newtons Laws, force, mass, acceleration, and velocity. We ended the unit with an egg drop activity. One-third of the eggs survived the fall!

Have you ever wondered what it would be like on the International Space Station? 🚀 Mrs. Rahn's STEM students got the chance to FIND OUT!
The 6th hour Stem students had an incredible opportunity to zoom with NASA’s SpaceX Crew 1 Astronauts! They researched the Crew 1 Mission and formulated some questions to ask them... two of their questions were answered! They participated with a few other classrooms from across the country.
Thank you Smithsonian’s STEM in 30and Smithsonian’s Teacher Innovator Institute; our students learned so much about being an astronaut on the ISS!

How cool is this?
Mrs. Rahn's STEM students worked collaboratively to create a storyboard for their Ozobot robots. They planned, built and coded their storyboards for their Ozobot to run through. They had to carefully draw the coded color segments to program the Ozobots. Some students chose to reenact the Apollo 14 Mission to the moon and some chose Fairy Tales and Haunted Houses.
