We look forward to seeing our students this morning. If your child has their device and charger at home, please send them back today.
Thanks!

Mrs. Monnot from the City of Claremore, Storm Water Department came to Catalayah to show our 5th graders about water quality. 5th graders have the opportunity to participate in an art contest. As a prize, the winner gets to have their art displayed on a trash truck for the next few
years.
Mrs. Monnot taught the students about recycling and how recycling will help keep the world clean. Keeping the world and the water clean will even help save the animals.
Recycling is the process of collecting and processing materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash and turning them into new products. Recycling can benefit your community and the environment.
5th graders (that want to participate) are asked to create a poster highlighting the effects pollutants have on Claremore and our Earth. Posters are due to Mrs. Coffey by March 1st.

Mrs. Fox and her students had fun with sensory snow bins for math and writing.
Do you think they will be playing with real snow soon?!?!?

We have a couple shout outs today!!!
A couple of weeks ago these high school students were exempt from their finals and spent their days volunteering and helping us!!!
INCENTIVES FOR BLOCK TEST EXEMPTIONS
At the completion of the 2nd and 4th blocks, high school students who have zero missing assignments, have not been suspended or placed in In-House detention, have 3 absences or less and an overall grade of an A or B will have the opportunity to be exempt from their block test.
We were so happy these amazing students chose to spend their day with us. Keep up the good work!!

Catalayah GT ~ there was great excitement today! Our new manipulatives, games, and art supplies purchased with a grant from Claremore Public Schools Foundation arrived. 3rd & 4th got to truck the boxes from Mrs. Story’s office.
The grant was written for the district elementary Gifted classes, so tomorrow 5th will help me load half of it to deliver to Claremont/Roosa students. There are some really cool materials that will greatly benefit our kiddos!
The students have been preparing water bottles to create their Dale Chihuly-inspired art installation. It’s going to be fabulous! Each student has also chosen a famous figure from the 1920’s to research. 3rd & 4th are using Google Slides and 5th will use Google docs to begin practicing essay skills. Stay tuned for finished products 💚

Mr. McGuire stopped by this morning and surprised us with donuts for the teachers lounge. It was such a blessing meeting him. He is such a kind person.
Thank you so much for the sweet surprise on this Friday morning.

During STEM Club last week, students were challenged to design and make the tallest card tower using either index cards or playing cards. Many of the students modified their original plan to create a more stable tower. The tallest one (before falling) was 20 inches tall!!

Calling all Future Chefs!!
It's time for the Future Chefs National Challenge. Students can showcase their skills by participating in the upcoming competition. Fill out an entry form with your favorite recipe of "Your favorite fruit or vegetable side dish to complete the plate", and you'll be in the running to compete in a live competition at Catalayah!!
It’s never too early to start teaching students how to make healthy food choices, master basic cooking skills and engage in a little friendly competition. Sodexo Schools has spent the last decade helping students practice their culinary skills through the Future Chefs Challenge.
Students can pick up the entry forms in the cafeteria. Forms MUST be returned by January 31st.
As an added bonus, the winner of this event will have their recipe entered into a National Competition with the chance to win even more great prizes.

Stay tuned for more pictures of the dinosaur lessons. 🦖🦕

In 5th grade Science the students were assigned a project about reducing our impact on Earth's systems. They were given criteria of making a fun pet toy out of materials they had at home. Their goal was to learn about how we can reduce our impact by reusing materials to make things instead of buying new items.
They presented their toys to the class and received feedback about how their product could be improved.
They were very creative and their excitement for this project really showed!!
