"There are many roles in the school counselor position. We wear so many hats! I believe one of the most important roles is helping children (individually, in small groups, and in whole class settings) practice social and emotional skills. Some of my favorite themes are: Kindness, Whole Body Listening, and The Power of Yet."

This year, Literacy Night has gone virtual! We are so excited to be able to still offer a Literacy Night to our Claremont family!
Please plan to join us via Google Classroom on Thursday, February 11th at 6:00 PM for a virtual Readers Theater performed by your very own classroom teachers!
The link to the performances is scheduled to go live on Google Classroom right at 6:00 PM. Find a place to snuggle up with your child and view the performance together!

This week is National School Counseling Week! This week we hope to focus on the unique contribution our School Counselors have upon the public school system.
School counselors are so important to our school buildings, and we would like to introduce you to ours, Mrs. Sheila Urbonas.
When asked what influenced her to become a school counselor, she replied, "After being a first grade teacher and special education teacher for over twenty years, I thought I wanted to leave the education field. I received my masters in counseling from Southern Nazarene University with the plan to work for a counseling agency. I worked in that field for a short time, but really missed the education setting. I missed the camaraderie of working alongside educators and being in a building full of children. Becoming a school counselor is the best of both worlds!"

Mrs. Ward's first grade class has a classroom spider plant named "Spidey."
Spider plants put off runners that grow smaller plants that when put in water grow roots and can be replanted!
Spidey has grown enough that 16 plants have been harvested and put in water to root. Some students have already been able to take their very own spider plants home - while others will be bringing them throughout the rest of the week!

February is Black History Month.
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. History.

Today is a Distance Learning Day, Claremont families!
There are so many ways to help your student be successful when learning at home. The graphic below outlines a few ways that you can help ensure that your students' distance learning day is both stress-free and successful!

Jennifer Crum, M.Ed., LPC, Certified School Psychologist, and Cindy Ramsey, M.Ed., Certified Reading Specialist would like to thank the Claremore Public School Foundation in granting a Fast Track Grant for "Orton Gillingham Online Academy."
The grant will be used for the 30-40 hours of online training and materials in the Orton Gillingham Approach and graduate level professional development credits.
Thank you to CPSF! We cannot wait to use what we learn in order to help Claremont students who struggle in the area of reading!

Mrs. Peck's first grade WIN group.
WIN time is such an important part of the day for all of our students. It gives them time to participate in targeted instruction that works to increase student achievement and academic success.

Today, January 27th, is Library Shelfie Day!
Library Shelfie Day was founded in 2014 by the New York Public Library and falls on the 4th Wednesday of January.
Whether you have a small library with a few select favorites or are a true bibliophile, arrange your collection on a shelf and take a picture. Express your inner artist! Build a tower of babbling books or a wall of words.
So, artfully arrange those books, and take a photo to share with us!

Today, January 27th, is the anniversary of when the last Nazi concentration camp was liberated. Since 2005, it has been known as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Remembrance of the Holocaust teaches us that humanity can survive unimaginable horrors. Personal strength and the will to live carried Holocaust survivors on until their rescue at the end of the war. It's a reminder that no evil is more powerful than the human spirit.

5th grade students took measurements to a whole new level and measured everything in their class! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

4th graders attended a mini-lesson given by Mrs. Troyer our Library Media Specialist, where they learned research skills for their upcoming informational report. Students brainstormed keywords for their topic, learned about different website domains and which were more likely to be a good resource, and also learned about using Boolean operators when searching for information for their reports.
