We know basketball season is going strong & Coach Faulconer had students building up their ball handling skills all week! 🏀⛹🏽⛹🏼♀️⛹🏾♂️⛹🏻♀️🦓
After practicing slaps, taps, wraps & more students played Dribble Knock Out. The ballers would keep their dribble while trying to knock other dribbler’s ball away. The last one dribbling (who didn't lose their ball) was the winner!
What a super fun way to develop new skills & strengthen hand eye coordination!!

✨ My school counselor helps me dream BIG ✨
Students all over Westside are showing their appreciation for Mrs. Lyons and how she inspires them and helps them succeed! 💭📓
From goal-setting sessions to empowering pep talks, our school counselor is here to ignite dreams and turn them into reality! 💫

Superior Land Designs, based out of Georgia, wanted to give back to the communities of their employees through a matched donation pool. Mrs. McGill’s husband, Shane, works for this company & Westside generously received $4,000 which has purchased brand new shoes, socks & other often overlooked items for our students.
The smiles and confidence Superior Land Designs has given our kiddos is priceless. These shoes are a gift that keeps on giving.
Our counselor Mrs. Lyons said, “The smiles make me smile and I love spying them showing off their shoes to their teachers and walking down these halls with a brand new confidence!”
Thank you Superior Land Designs!!!

Mrs. Sweet & Ms. Brown’s 2nd grade classes are doing a deep dive on learning about the Chinese New Year.
These lessons are incorporating reading, art, math, geography, comparing & contrasting cultures and traditions & more, WOW! These 2nd grade students are even getting a Chinese food experience with snacks, candies & they are even learning to use chopsticks! 🥢🦓❤️
We need these second graders to come teach us how to use chopsticks next! Keep it up 2nd grade, absolutely love it!

The other day, we found 4th grade teacher Ms. Johnson sharing lunch & just catching up with her students on what's up in their world.
Sometimes the biggest impact we have at school are the relationships we build with one another - big & small. These relationships & friendships are where we find a sense of belonging & connection. Keep it up, Westies. ❤️🦓

We cannot wait to see the finished product on this one!
Mr. McClurg & every student at Westside, kindergarten through 5th, are creating huge murals together as a team to hang in the halls. The students are using oil pastels to create the big beauties!
We will check back in when these are displayed and completed. Yay, Westside Art, we are so excited for this!

In Mrs. Barbees kindergarten class, students are learning their site words in a super fun way. Sight word Jenga!
Each wood piece has a sight word on the sides. Students choose the piece they want to pull, then they read the sight words & put it back on top of the tower. The students keep playing until it falls over.
Keep building those reading skills (and tall towers), kindergarten!!

Westside was recently represented by members of our Honor Choir who were selected for participation & performed in the annual Circle the State with Song concert in Owasso alongside other 4th - 8th graders from many other schools throughout the region.
Mr. Levesque & his Honor Choir students have worked many hours outside of school preparing for this event. Our students did an amazing job & gave a wonderful performance with confidence! We are very proud! Mr. Levesque even joined the choir on stage for a few songs as an instrumentalist!

Check out these 5th grade reading superstars!
Mrs. McGill, our 5th grade ELA teacher, has found some highly motivating tactics with our kids. Students have a goal, that for every 40 books they read, they can earn a fast food lunch with Mrs. McGill! What a generous & fun way to help nurture our growing readers! 📚🦓💪🏽
Congrats to these students who have already reached this goal!

“No one can help everyone. But, everyone can help someone.”
These 4th grade leaders helped Ms. Summer & Ms. Michelle, our custodians, wipe down & clean tables after lunch. These students are shining bright, leading by example.

Happy Library Shelfie Day!
Today is a day to celebrate our growing readers, their top choices of books & the library shelves we pull from!
Check out these Westies with some of their favorites books to read! 🦓❤️📚

Honoring Our Exceptional School Board Members! January is School Board Recognition Month and we couldn't be more grateful for our outstanding board members who dedicate their time and expertise to ensure the success of our schools. To our incredible school board members: Your tireless commitment, leadership, and advocacy for quality education makes a profound impact on our schools and Claremore community! Thank you for your selfless service and helping to ensure it’s a great day to be a Zebra!

Check out the big math happening in 1st grade class with Mrs. Sanders! Her class is counting to 100 and beyond with their new number-grid mat. They rolled the dice, found the number, then looked for -1, +1, -10, +10 from that number. What a fun way to learn math! Keep it up, we love to see it! ➕➖❤️🦓🙌🏽

Mrs. McClurg’s kindergarten class has been combining reading & art to create some really fun projects. They read & listened to Tacky the Penguin, a story about being true to yourself—even when it means being a little different from everybody else. Students then brainstormed and wrote words to describe Tacky, drew designs with white crayons & then painted with watercolors to create their own unique & funky shirts for Tacky. 🦓🎨🐧📚

Zebras bucks are one way Westside students earn choices for rewards after being recognized in good behavior. All classes have their own reward system in place for students to choose their reward. In Mrs. Collins class, this student chose show & tell. He shared his first buck he hunted with his Papa & that they chose a European mount. Wow! What a unique and special memory with your class! On the other hand, these 3rd grade students, chose to eat lunch with their teacher Ms. Palmer! Definitely a special time together! Keep up the good choices, Westies! 💪🏽🦓❤️
