Westside's incredible counselor, Mrs. Lyons, visits classrooms around Westside to teach social and emotional skills. This class helped identify emotions by viewing facial expressions and body language. Westside students love having time for the excitement and love that she brings to each lesson. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Fourth grade students know that teamwork, friendship, and fun are the perfect trifecta for a beautiful sunny day. These students had a blast at recess and loved the free time with their pals. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

This second grade class received a generous gift from their classroom sponsor, Sunloan. Not only did the staff at Sunloan provide presents for students to unwrap before the holidays, but they also purchased warm hats to welcome them back to school. Westside teachers encourage and assist learning for others, but they also model what it means to be life-long learners. Educators district wide spent their first day back attending professional development training. The knowledge and skills gained during this time go directly to ensuring growth and success for our students. It's a great day to be a Zebra! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Tranquillite Spa and Massage Therapy was generous enough to donate certificates for staff throughout the district to receive a one hour relaxation massage. Huge thank you to the ladies at Tanquillite for supporting our hard-working staff! The massage winners for the first half of the school year include Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Olari, Ms. Johnson, and Mrs. Sinni. These staff members were so excited and grateful to have a much needed break. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

After learning about states of matter and how they affect the world around us, these second grade students made air blasters. After the lesson, they competed in air blaster relay races and participated in various experiments. These fifth grade Safety Patrol members recognized Mrs. Stone, Mr. Wesley, Mrs. Olari, and Mrs. McClurg with character recognition awards. Our Westside elves recently spread holiday spirit throughout the building. These elves didn't build toys, but they built up other little helpers before the Winter Break. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

The Westside Honor Choir recently joined Treble 131, the Junior High Show Choir, to sing a few songs to the school for their holiday performance. Students and their families were invited to attend an incredible event. Thanks to all involved for helping us start Winter Break off right! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Superior Land Designs, based out of Georgia, wanted to give back to the communities of their employees through a matched donation pool. Westside received $2,500 to help give students a special holiday! This generous gift purchased 50 new pairs of shoes for many students. In addition to shoes, the company sponsored Christmas gifts for some students and Christmas meals for others. Another anonymous donor then sponsored 10 more meals for students and their families this season. Westside Counselor, Mrs. Lyons shared, "The smiles on their faces this week were heartwarming as I cut off the tags of these BRAND NEW SHOES. Every single one wore them proudly down the hallways back to their classrooms. Many stopped others in the hallways to show them off." The holiday spirit is alive at Westside! Huge thank you to Superior Land Designs and the anonymous donor for the inspiring generosity!
