Students at Westside celebrated Black History month in many different ways, but one of our favorites just might be the decorations celebrating the diversity in our school/community. Students filled the halls with handcrafted work that connected to deep thinking lessons. They hung quotes from historical figures, celebrated them, and discussed the meaning behind their words. Back in March of 2020, we went on distance learning for an extended amount of time and one of our students created their own business. She is now using it to better her community! 5th grader, Alayna Eberley, made this blanket and donated it to Dec My Room! Dec My Room is an organization that's goal is to change a dull hospital room into a cozier, more personalized space for patients. This blanket is going to a sweet patient at OU Children’s Hospital in OKC! We are proud of you, Alayna, and we love the kindness you are spreading with Alayna's Land of Tie Dye! Distance learning is the use of various technologies to facilitate student-teacher and student-student communication. It is also the ability to learn from home with your PJs on, wearing cool sunglasses, or with your pet in your lap! Maybe even all three! Westside proudly introduces another one of our fabulous teachers, Mrs. Jennifer Levesque! "My name is Jennifer Levesque. I am the elementary resource teacher and oversee the Special Education department at Westside. I love my students and my Westside Family! We have such a caring and dedicated group of professionals at Westside who work together to help our students succeed. Our Westside students make me so proud and inspire me every day with their hard work and resilience. My favorite things include reading, music, baseball, traveling, and spending time with my family. A fun fact about me is that I love seeing new places and have taken road trips through over 30 states across the country." Westside Valentines for Veterans! ❤ Students from across several different grade levels at Westside helped create special Valentine’s Day cards for our military friends at the Veterans Center in Claremore. Our students created unique cards in their style, wrote out valentine wishes & hand written thank you notes for our Claremore veterans. We were grateful for a chance to show some love & gratitude to those who served in our community. Way to go Westside! Keigan (1st), Rivers (3rd), Hudson (4th) & Riley (3rd) are delivering our Westside Valentines for Veterans to Ms. Patty to be distributed to residents. ❤ #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

** REMINDER ** All Claremore Public Schools offices and campuses will be closed for Presidents Day on Monday, February 21, 2022. The child nutrition team will move the distribution of meals from Monday to Tuesday the 22nd. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Valentines Day NOTICE 💝 Any Valentines' gift sent to the school will be held in the office (or library) until the end of the day. A note will be sent to the receiver to let them know they received a delivery. 🚌 Be advised, bus riders are not allowed to take glass or balloons on the bus with them, all items must fit into their backpack. Westside proudly introduces a loyal, and dedicated teacher, Mrs. Darsea Sanders! "My name is Darsea Sanders. I began teaching at Westside in 2005. I’ve taught first grade for 19 years and I still love it! My husband, Troy, and I have been married for 25 years. We have 3 children, 2 attend RSU and our youngest is in 7th grade. I am an avid reader and a rock music buff. I also enjoy crafting, camping, going to concerts and spending time with my family. Some of my favorite things are coffee, Mexican food and anything dark chocolate. An interesting fact about me is that my husband and I both lived in Anchorage Alaska on the same street just a few years apart. I am currently taking a 2-year class called LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) that focuses on mastering reading fundamentals and development. I hope I am always learning new things to be a better teacher. " Thank you so much for sharing, Mrs. Sanders! On Distance Learning days, our teachers are hard at work! They answer questions, give support during school hours, some have google meet times, some record lessons to post, some even go live with lessons!
