Our 6th grade science students are taking their experiments to new heights! 🪂Building and launching hot air balloons is not easy-it requires a lot pf patience, problem-solving skills, and understanding pf physics concepts. It's a real life application of the scientific method - hypothesis, experiment, and analysis all rolled into one exciting project!

It's not UNO... it's U-KNOW! Students in Mrs. Wiley's class put an educational spin on the classic game. Instead of matching numbers and colors, they matched text structures! It's a great way to teach students about different ways to organize and present information. It's UNO meets a reading comprehension lesson! What a fun, and engaging way to learn!

Drone day/competition with Tulsa Will Rogers JROTC was a HUGE success! Collaboration, sharing, teamwork, learning, growth, social interaction (sans PEDs), and some friendly Army-Navy competition (Navy won the athletic competition!)
We celebrated with awards and fine cuisine from our hometown Arby’s! What a great day!

It was a "cool" contest in Mrs. Highley's class! On Friday, all of Mrs. Highley's students were told that the actor who plays Ponyboy in The Outsiders had not only visited Tulsa, but actually visited the DX gas station in the movie! The contest was for the first student who was able to show her his picture on the internet or email her a picture would receive a prize! Shortly after school ended on Friday, three students provided Mrs. Highley with C Thomas Howell's picture and WON some yummy looking prizes! Way to go!

Meet Mrs. Helm, counselor of 7th and 8th graders:
I want to make a positive impact in the community and help shape the lives of the next generation. As a WRJH counselor, I believe I have that ability.
I graduated from OSU with my Bachelors in Elementary Education. I have been in education for 11 years. This is my first year as a school counselor. Previously, I was a teacher. I have taught 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. I graduated from SWOSU with my masters in school counseling and psychometry in fall of 2022. I have two daughters and one son. My oldest daughter, Skyler, is a sophomore at UCO. My youngest two are Nathan and Emma.

Making a connection with a student who may be struggling is just one of the reasons I love what I do as a counselor at WRJH.
I graduated from CHS. I went to Mid-America Christian University (MACU) for my bachelors in psychology. I am currently doing my masters in clinical mental health. Before working here as a counselor I was working as a behavior therapist with children who have autism. My husband and I have been married for 5 years and we have two daughters. We also have two dogs.

41 books in just 9 weeks is no small feat! 📚 Dr. Young’s 6th period students must be total bookworms! They got to celebrate being the class that read the most books for the second 9 weeks with a total of 41 books read! They celebrated by watching The Outsiders movie with not only popcorn but also root beer floats! And having a root beer float and watching a good movie on a cold afternoon is pretty much the definition of cozy!

It's National School Counselor week! What a great time to recognize and celebrate the amazing work that school counselors do! Counselors play such a vital role in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of students, while also helping them navigate the social and academic challenges of school life. They are our superheroes and we appreciate them!

Students are working to understand one step equations using addition and subtraction. Equations can be confusing at first because you do the opposite of what you see. These students spent the day practicing getting used to doing the opposite by making a chain of questions and answers. Students were able to work in partner groups to encourage cooperative learning.
Those tricky equations can be tough to wrap your head around at first, but it sounds like these students are tackling them in a pretty creative way! Good job, Ms. Phariss!

It's a CRUSH of a candy gram! Our WRJH counselors are selling "crush grams" for Valentine's Day! Buy one for a friend, a teacher, a parent, or even your crush! They will be selling the crush grams during lunch the week of February 5-9.

It was like stepping back in time to the 1960's and the era of greased back hair, leather jackets, and white t-shirts~students dressed up as a soc or a greaser after reading the book "The Outsiders". What a great way for students to immerse themselves in the story and gain a deeper understanding of the cultural and social dynamics of that era.
And they looked cool, too! 😎

But it's also a lot of FUN! From planning and designing to constructing and testing, there's lots of hands- on learning involved!

Recycling complete...followed by a polar bear TREAT! 🍦
Students in Mrs. Esau's class began a recycling project this year. Classes set out their recycling each week and students go around the school and pick it up. They take it to the recycling center and distribute it to the appropriate container. Afterward, they got a special treat from our favorite ice cream place!
Organizing a school-wide recycling effort and promoting environmental awareness and sustainability! Way to go, Mrs. Esau's class!
