Mrs. Mercer's students did a drama circle today to work with idioms. They had to say their line (which included an idiom) then act out the literal meaning instead of the figurative meaning.
They had so much fun being creative and brushing up on their idiom knowledge!

What do you use to show how tectonic plates, large slabs of rock that divide Earth's crust, move? With a candy bar!
While learning about plate tectonics and boundaries, Mrs. Boyd's classes were able to use a Milky Way candy bar to show each type of boundary and what occurs there! Does it form earthquakes? Volcanoes?

What is a tectonic plate boundary? A tectonic plate boundary is the border between two plates. Students were learning about tectonic plate boundaries and what happens at each by demonstrating them with Oreos.
Yes, they got to eat them once they completed the assignment!

Have you ever heard someone say, "love is a battlefield" or "he has a heart of stone"? These are examples of figurative language. Students in Mrs. Mercer's class have been working through 9 different stations to refresh what they know about Figurative Language. They’ve reviewed definitions, looked at examples of each type of figurative language, and done some fun activities to practice writing and identifying figurative language in literature.

We had another tournament this weekend, and all teams represented WJRH well with a win for Skills Champion and Design Award!
Congratulations to our Robotics teams and Mr. Isenbart! Way to go!

How do you make choosing partners in school fair? With a paper toss! To ensure random pairings and help kids stay active during review and refresher activities, Coach Dexter lets students toss paper "snowballs" with numbers inside. The students then pick up a paper to see what numbers they get and match up with the student who has the same number!
