In Mrs. Boyd's Native American Club, students made corn husk dolls. Corn husk dolls have been made by Northeastern Native Americans for more than a thousand years, since the beginning of corn agriculture. They would soak the dried corn husks in water to make the dolls for their children to play with while they did their work. Native American Club meets weekly after school. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

We've had a great season for Choir! 🎶 Emmalynn Roberts made Children's All State as a Soprano 1. She is our first 6th grader to make Children's All State! She participated in a virtual conference and videoed her performance and choreography to submit for a virtual performance. Way to go, Emmalynn! Elyson Trosky is a 7th grader who made OCDA Junior High All State. She came to school on a weekend to participate in a virtual conference with the best Junior High singers in the state of Oklahoma led by a world class clinician. She also video'd her performance and submitted for a virtual choir performance. What an accomplishment! Congratulations! We are so proud of you! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

WIN (What I Need) class is a 30 minute class where all students have targeted instruction based on their needs in Math and English. In Ms. Blankenship's WIN class, students did a text structure sort. They worked in groups to sort on paper before sorting digitally on their own. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

How often do you work out your brain? 🧠 Mrs. Lee's sixth-grade English class is practicing reading stamina- reading for a long period of time without becoming distracted. Using this brain power helps with comprehension and focus. What is your reading stamina? 🕢 #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

What would you do if you were trapped in a cenote and only had a few minutes to escape? Mrs. Rice's Geography class had to figure that out! The students discovered that they had been trapped in a cenote by the Mayan Rain God. In order to escape, they had to decipher codes to unlock five different locks. All while learning about Mayan territory, culture, symbols, etc. Did they succeed? Did they escape? The answers are in the pictures! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

✨Staff Spotlight✨ My name is Tommy Rogers. I am from Sand Springs, Ok. I went to college at Ft. Hays State University and Northwestern Oklahoma State University for my undergraduate and received my masters at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. I have been teaching and coaching for nine years! My why is very simple: the kids. I want to be a positive role model for the children in our hallways. I attempt to build relationships with every student within the school. I would not be where I am today if it were not for all of my past teachers and coaches! What do you do right before spring break, to keep the students engaged? A marshmallow challenge! Mrs. Lohmann's math class was challenged to sketch out and then build the tallest free standing tower that would support a large marshmallow on the top. They had to work in groups, learn what materials were stronger than others, how engineering failures can happen, and techniques of different materials. The materials were spaghetti noodles, one yard of string, and one yard of tape. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE
