It's National Counselor Week, and to celebrate our amazing counselors, here is one of their favorite quotes:

Meet the counselor: Kaci Warren
I am Kaci Warren and I am one of the school counselors at WRJH. This is my sixth year in education and I love seeing kids grow and change across the course of their education. I enjoy being on the go and when the weather is nice I spend a lot of time outdoors. I enjoy riding motorcycles, traveling, hiking, reading and spending time with family. This has been a very exciting year for my family and this May my husband and I will be welcoming our first baby into the world!

It is important to keep our kids safe while online, and Claremore Public Schools is committed to providing software for our devices and resources for our parents. We have partnered with FamilyZoneUSA to ensure students’ cyber safety at school and at home.
This #TechTipTuesday will show parents how to set up an account with FamilyZone and obtain the instructions on how to setup FamilyZone on all personal electronic devices that are not school-issued.

Meet the counselor: Mattie Kennon
My name is Mattie Kennon. I am a School Counselor at WRJH and currently work with our 6th and 7th grade students. I am also a Chair Advisor for WRJH's National Junior Honor Society and Student Council.
This is my second year as a Claremore Zebra, and my favorite year so far as a school counselor!
I am thankful for each of my coworkers, and their drive to positively impact students' lives. This inspires me to grow each day in my profession as a school counselor.

Mrs. Stout's geography students are comparing and contrasting the different government systems in Africa by creating a collaborative Venn diagram. They took turns placing items on the diagram and then worked together to correct their mistakes. All of the classes were able to complete their Venn diagram, but 6th hour did it in only 4 minutes and 30 seconds! Way to go!

It's NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELORS WEEK! We will be celebrating our amazing school counselors all week!

Mrs. Shilling's Current Events class came up with a FUN way to help our local animal shelter with a White Elephant service project! Before our holiday break, the class chose to bring gifts for our local shelter. They wrapped them and played the White Elephant game, unwrapping and stealing gifts from each other! After they wrapped, unwrapped, and played the game, all the gifts were donated to Claremore Animal Shelter! What a fun way to help out our community!

Mrs. Franklin's class made presentations on the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire. Each student presented in front of the class where they had to make a claim and be able to support their claim with reasons and evidence. Presenting in front of the class not only helps all students learn about the lesson, it gives students practice in speaking in front of a group, confidence in themselves, and listening skills for all involved.

Compounds, mixtures, and elements... how do you get students interested in learning about them? By thinking outside the box! Mrs. Boyd's science classes are learning about compounds, mixtures and elements by using Legos. Using Legos helps students recreate and understand how this works!

Claremore Public School Celebrates School Board Recognition Month
The Claremore Public School (CPS) District joins school districts throughout Oklahoma to celebrate School Board Recognition Month, Superintendent Bryan Frazier announced.
"Our school board members are volunteers who shoulder critical responsibilities and often make difficult choices for our District, all without pay. Their goal focuses on the future success of the children in our District," Superintendent Frazier said. "Celebrating School Board Recognition Month is one way to say thanks for all they do."

Will Rogers Junior High competed in its first robotics event of the year last Saturday and it was a huge success! Our teams performed well and learned a great deal from the experience. There were 24 teams able to join us this year, with WRJH competing against high school teams! Competition was tough, but we did well. After the competition, all of the students had plans for how to make their robots better which is what it is all about!

Does it seem that students are constantly on their electronic devices?📱 Mrs. Rahn's 6th Grade STEM students are showing us how they don't just consume technology, they are actually creating it! They used Ozobots to learn the creative side of coding. Students use a series of colors to code the Ozobots to tell the robot what to do. First, they worked on coding their initials, then moved to creating a storyboard for the Ozobots. Some created haunted houses while others created traditional nursery rhymes.

My name is Traci Smith. I am a Claremore girl - born and raised! I graduated from Claremore High School in 1991, married my high school sweetheart, and graduated from Northeastern State University in 2000. This is my 19th year of teaching, most of which has been in Claremore. I spent the first 5 years of my career as an elementary teacher in Mesquite, Texas. While in Mesquite I studied with a cohort from Texas A&M Commerce where I received my Masters in Education in 2005. My husband, Eric, and I have been married for 29 years and have two children who also graduated from Claremore High School; a daughter, Kanesa, who is an avid photographer (took the pic) and is currently writing her first novel, and a son, Jacob, who recently graduated from Northeast Tech.
I teach 7th Grade Geography. Of all the subjects and grades I have taught, it is my absolute favorite! I'm an adventurer at heart and love to travel! Teaching is an everyday adventure filled with excitement and suspense in the journey! The relationships I have built with students over the years are ones that I truly cherish. Honestly, I was not the best student, and I did not always want to be a teacher. However, I did have a handful of teachers who inspired me. Not because they knew their content, but because they attempted to know me! I will never forget them and how they made me feel. That's the kind of teacher I want to be.
