Mrs. Devers - 2nd grade teacher #ROOSASTAFFSPOTLIGHT - I went to college at Cameron University. This is my 11th year at Roosa. I am married to Dustin and we have a sweet two year old boy named Luke. We have two cats, two horses, a dog and a turtle. I chose to become a teacher because I want all children to have a loving environment where they are cared for and have the chance to learn and succeed to their fullest potential. I want to make a difference in the life of every child who comes to my classroom. I enjoy building relationships with my students and experiencing their growth alongside them. The other teachers I teach with at Roosa are such inspirations to me! They continually put children first and are fully committed to providing quality education in a loving environment. My favorite quote: “Rejoice always, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Mrs. Mudd helped the students and staff celebrate Read Across America week with a daily video about the activities and contests to promote reading. One of the games was to Guess the Mystery Reader of the Day. Everyday this week a different Staff member read a section of a Dr. Seuss book with a disguised voice! Students tried to guess the Mystery Reader of the day. Prizes were books to keep for their personal library. Here are a few of the daily winners! #READACROSSAMERICA #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

And students wrote a proper sentence telling why they would be a good Tooth Fairy and they signed it with a fingerprint. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

One of my favorite 3D designs! Roosa 5th grader, Heidi Hawley, designed a 3D replica of the Nintendo Switch in TinkerCad. Once Heidi completed her design, it was uploaded to a 3D slicer and then printed using our Innovation Lab’s 3D printer. Her design took approximately 2 hours to print. Excellent attention to detail, Heidi! -Ms. Cardwell, Roosa STEM Teacher #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

4th grade asked the question How does a windmill capture wind energy? The students designed and built a device that uses wind energy to rotate. They built windmills! Students drew and cut out fan blades, secured the blades and attached it to a straw. The pin was adjusted so the blades could spin freely. A windmill that captures energy was created! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

March is Music in our Schools Month and the Roosa Music room beamed with creativity! Students used Chrome Music Lab Song Maker to compose their own songs. They were given a chord progression to modify and then told to create their own melody to add to it. Music can make you smarter, help you relax and musical education increases college acceptance rates. For more information on Music in our School Month check out this website: https://nationaltoday.com/national-music-schools-month/ #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Last week, Mrs. Devers class created a Book Scavenger Hunt for her kiddos as a Read Across America activity challenge. They worked in pairs to see who could find as many items on the list in library books before the time was up. The second graders were able to explore areas of the library they might not normally look for books, using their knowledge of genres to navigate through the scavenger hunt. Teamwork, critical thinking skills, friendly competition, and concentration all played a part in this activity designed to help foster a love for reading. #READACROSSAMERICA #CPSEBRAPRIDE
