5th grade has been learning about the Energy in Food they eat. Did you know that children between the ages of 10 and 12 need a minimum of 2,200 Calories each day? Students looked at the calories and the nutritional value of different foods. Some students were shocked at how many calories were in their favorite sodas compared to the food they consume for energy. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Jackie Feliciano #ROOSASTAFFSPOTLIGHT Paraprofessional - I attended Owasso High School and graduated in 2007. After being a stay at home mom for 15 years, I’ve jumped in with both feet and this is my first year working at Roosa. I chose to join the CPS team because I love working with kids and seeing their smiling faces every day! My husband and I will be celebrating being together 18 years and married for 13 years in April. We have four children together, Josh, Damien, Lilliana, and Amelia. We have our very own mini “farm” with geese, ducks, chickens, 1 dog, 1 cat, and last but not least 1 bearded dragon. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Mrs. Devers - 2nd grade teacher #ROOSASTAFFSPOTLIGHT - I went to college at Cameron University. This is my 11th year at Roosa. I am married to Dustin and we have a sweet two year old boy named Luke. We have two cats, two horses, a dog and a turtle. I chose to become a teacher because I want all children to have a loving environment where they are cared for and have the chance to learn and succeed to their fullest potential. I want to make a difference in the life of every child who comes to my classroom. I enjoy building relationships with my students and experiencing their growth alongside them. The other teachers I teach with at Roosa are such inspirations to me! They continually put children first and are fully committed to providing quality education in a loving environment. My favorite quote: “Rejoice always, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Mrs. Mudd helped the students and staff celebrate Read Across America week with a daily video about the activities and contests to promote reading. Students tried to guess the Mystery Reader of the day. Prizes were books to keep for their personal library. Here are a few of the daily winners! #READACROSSAMERICA #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Mrs. Page’s 1st grade class has been studying about tooth fairies and they applied for the job! Applications included questions such as Do you take good care of your teeth? One of my favorite 3D designs! Roosa 5th grader, Heidi Hawley, designed a 3D replica of the Nintendo Switch in TinkerCad. Once Heidi completed her design, it was uploaded to a 3D slicer and then printed using our Innovation Lab’s 3D printer. Her design took approximately 2 hours to print. Excellent attention to detail, Heidi! -Ms. Cardwell, Roosa STEM Teacher #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Last week, Mrs. Devers class created a Book Scavenger Hunt for her kiddos as a Read Across America activity challenge. They worked in pairs to see who could find as many items on the list in library books before the time was up. The second graders were able to explore areas of the library they might not normally look for books, using their knowledge of genres to navigate through the scavenger hunt. Teamwork, critical thinking skills, friendly competition, and concentration all played a part in this activity designed to help foster a love for reading. #READACROSSAMERICA #CPSEBRAPRIDE
