Roosa Kindergarteners stopped by the Fire Department to learn about 🔥🚒🧯 Fire Safety.🔥🚒🧯 Students saw a fire truck, fire gear and a tour of how a fire truck can saves lives. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE



Mrs. Devers' 2nd grade class incorporated project-based learning during a Geography Unit. They memorized the names and locations of all the 🌎🌊Continents and Oceans 🌎🌊 and then they showed off their knowledge by creating their own world map! It’s Bus Safety Week and the CPS Transportation Department is introducing their staff and additional safety service for all of our buses - GPS! This technology has been added to all their buses and is now connected to the Stopfinder App which will allow families to get real-time information concerning the bus their child is on.

WIN groups are off to a great start! Our WIN groups offer each student just "What I Need," and right now some are focusing on building strong character. Mrs. Hendrickson has been talking about self-control with her groups. They took time to discuss how Jenga could fit well with building positive character habits, how important it is to have a good foundation, and just how much self-control it takes to pull a piece out without knocking down their tower! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Fun Fitness Friday has been a huge success! Since the weather has been so beautiful we are hoping this Fun Fitness Friday to be able to run/walk using the outside playground area. Our focus will continue to be on pacing and heart rate. Students please make sure to wear your tennis shoes this Friday, Oct 22. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE


Mrs. Mann’s 2nd grade class read the story Too Many Pumpkins, then identified and wrote about the problem and solution. They ended the book study with their own pumpkin patch. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE



Mrs. LaValley’s 2nd grade class worked together to solve math equations and create a circle from puzzle pieces. This activity helped them with their math facts, teamwork, and created high level thinking. They stayed actively engaged in their learning and helped other teams when needed. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE





1st grade asked the question, will Pumpkin Jack sink or float? They discussed the hypothesis and created an experiment to prove it to be true or false. The outcome was it floats! Some students asked if they brought the pumpkin outside would the outcome be the same? They brought the pumpkin outside and the hypothesis turned out to be the same and led to some great thoughts about the air inside the pumpkin. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE




Miss Bart’s 5th grade Math class had a “Safari Restaurant '' where they added decimals in real life situations. Students were given menus with prices. They had to plan out their meal by adding all items including tax and tip. Then determine how much change they were to receive. The lesson ended with real snacks. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE




P.E. had fun playing 🚢 Sink the Ship 🚢 - Four ships adventure out into the gym with their flotation devices or plastic bowling pins. Cannons are all over the place or students on rolling boards equipped with canons or balls. Now they try to Sink the Ship! Students used hand eye coordination and skill to Sink the Ship or Stay Afloat! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE





🔥🚒🧯 Firemen and women stopped by Roosa and talked to the 1st graders about Fire Safety. Students had the opportunity to see the protective clothing the firemen and women wear to put out the fires. 🔥🚒🧯 #CPSZEBRAPRIDE


🍎🍏 Apples 🍎🍏 Kindergarten weighed and tasted their favorite apples. They used STEM principles to build an apple tree. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Education spans far more than what a teacher teaches from the board. Mrs. LaValley’s 2nd grade class took ownership of their own learning by reading books on their level during “cookie bookie”. This activity requires students to select books in their range, find a spot around the room that meets their learning style, and enjoy cookies while they read. Students stay engaged and focused on what they are reading when their needs are met academically, environmentally, and socially. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE





Chiari Awareness - Chiari is a serious neurological disorder where the bottom part of the brain, the cerebellum, descends out of the skull and crowds the spinal cord, putting pressure on both the brain and spine causing many symptoms. Two students at Roosa Elementary Payge Henderson and Sage Roper have Chiari. On September 30, students and staff at Roosa Elementary wore Purple for Chiari Day to help bring awareness. #purpleforchiari #chiarilife #CPSZEBRAPRIDE
