David Mudd to Champion Talent and Culture as Executive Director of Human Resources

Claremore, OK — Claremore Public Schools is pleased to announce the promotion of David Mudd to the role of Executive Director of Human Resources. Mudd, who has served as the Assistant Principal at Claremont Elementary, brings a diverse and dynamic professional background to the position, blending educational leadership, private sector experience, and a deep commitment to the Claremore community.

Mudd’s path to this new role has been anything but traditional, and that’s part of what makes him so uniquely qualified. With a career that began in public education as a band director and music teacher, then transitioned into the oil and gas industry and entrepreneurship, Mudd eventually returned to education, serving as Claremore High School’s band director before stepping into administration. Mudd emphasized that each role played a crucial part in honing his leadership skills and enhancing operational efficiency. He noted, “These experiences taught me problem-solving under pressure, building relationships with stakeholders, and managing complex schedules and budgets. From overseeing budgets and schedules to providing support for staff and students, these experiences have profoundly shaped my approach to leadership and service.”

Now, in his new district-level role, Mudd is focused on creating a strong, supportive work culture that empowers educators and staff to thrive. “We have the best students and the best teachers,” he said. “I want to remove barriers so our staff can do what they do best, because when our teachers and students thrive, Claremore thrives.”

Mudd describes his leadership style as rooted in servant leadership, with an emphasis on accessibility, listening, and creating conditions that allow others to succeed. “I’ll lead by being present, keeping communication open and honest, and ensuring every decision we make supports the incredible work happening in classrooms.”

His priorities for the first year include connecting with staff across the district, holding listening sessions, and building trust through consistent communication and follow-through. “A strong culture starts with relationships,” Mudd explained. “People need to feel heard, valued, and equipped to succeed.”

Mudd’s personal and professional values are closely aligned with Claremore Public Schools’ core values of Grit, Community, Innovation, Excellence, and Purpose. “I strive to be authentic in how I live out those values every day,” he said. “I believe there’s no higher purpose than teaching others—and that’s true whether you’re in a classroom or leading from a central office.”

His approach to recruiting and retaining high-quality staff will focus on strengthening workplace culture. “When people feel supported and valued, we’ll naturally retain more staff and attract great candidates. Our goal is to make Claremore Public Schools the place where top educators want to work, grow, and stay.”

Mudd’s connection to Claremore runs deep. Though he originally moved to the area to be closer to family, he quickly found a professional home in the district. “That Zebra identity has evolved for me. It’s no longer just where I work, it’s where I belong. It’s a community built on daily consistency, showing up, and growing together.”

Outside of work, Mudd enjoys spending time with his family, riding bikes, hiking, reading, and playing music. He’s an active member of the Tulsa Brass Band and the Quintessential Brass Quintet and enjoys making music with friends at church.

Please join us in congratulating David Mudd on his well-earned promotion. His vision, experience, and heart for service will guide Claremore Public Schools in building an exceptional team and a culture that supports student success at every level.

It’s a Great Day to Be a Zebra.
