Mary Klassen Memorial Scholarship recipient wasMaria Bustamante. Maria was awarded $2500 towards college.
Maria is a CHS Valedictorian, member of the CHS Band and the President of National Honor Society.
Like the scholarship namesake, Maria has a heart for her community. She lead her team in planning the Oklahoma State NHS Convention, was instrumental in the Seatbelts Are For Everyone campaign, and was the chair of the NHS philanthropy project: HOPE RACE for Education, an official 5K and fun run planned, organized, and hosted by the organization. Her attention to detail, desire for accuracy, and dependability were paramount in the success of this project-based learning opportunity. Over the two years, the HOPE RACE raised over $13,000 for educational grants.
In addition, Maria, was part of the CHS Award Winning Marching and Concert Band spending summers, mornings, and Friday nights perfecting her musical skills. This year Maria was elected as the Band Queen.
Maria will continue her post-secondary education at the University of Oklahoma and has been selected to be a part of the President's Leadership Community.
