Emily Evans - CHS Art Feature

This is Emily Evans. She is a Senior at CHS and a National Award-winning artist. She met with us to share her artistic story and inspiration.

🎨How long have you been in art?

I’ve been taking art classes since 8th grade, but I’ve been creating art my whole life. Since I was about 3 years old, I have always loved to create.

🎨What have you learned about yourself through your art?

I’ve learned that I am much more patient than I thought.

🎨Is there a piece or multiple that is most meaningful to you?

One piece that is the most meaningful to me is “Til’ Death,” which is a piece I did in my sophomore year. It was the most time-consuming and the first piece I’ve ever sold.

🎨 Where do you gather inspiration?

I don’t really have a set style, but I get my inspiration from Pexels.com or Unsplash.com. They are websites with copyright-free images that must be used in order to submit pieces to some shows.

🎨Have you won any awards for your work?

If so, what were they? I won the Golden Key Award when I submitted “Til’ Death” to Scholastic. That award gave me a $2500 scholarship towards OSU.

🎨What is your favorite art style, your specific art style?

My favorite style is realism. I like it because the end result is really impressive to me. Other people like my art when I draw in this style, too, because the final product (if I put hours and hours into it) can look like a picture.

🎨What did it mean to you to have multiple pieces of art in the show?

When I put multiple pieces in the art show, I felt like I had accomplished something as an artist. When I won ribbons, these feelings were validated.

🎨How do you feel that your art teachers have helped/supported you in your pursuits?

Yes, very much. My art teacher has suggested I try many pieces, most of which have been successful.

🎨What artistic journey brought you into art, or how did you find your passion?

I found my passion when I was little, watching online drawing tutorials and making little doodles.

🎨What have you learned about yourself through this experience/art?

I’ve learned to take my time on pieces of art instead of rushing to get it done as quickly as possible. I’ve also learned I really like creating art with contrasting colors.

🎨How did it feel getting to see people admire your work/talent?

Accepting compliments about my art can be awkward, especially when I don’t like the piece. But I like the compliments. It makes me feel like I’m doing something right.
