julie geiger state director of the year

Claremore, OK – Claremore Public Schools (CPS) proudly celebrates Julie Geiger, Director of Special Services, for being named the Special Services Director of the Year for the State of Oklahoma; a recognition that honors her servant heart, visionary leadership, and the transformational impact she has made over more than four decades of service.

Since joining CPS in 1983, Julie has dedicated her career to ensuring students with special needs have the resources, opportunities, and encouragement to reach their full potential. Her unwavering passion has led to significant strides for the district, expanding programs and services that have changed lives and opened doors for generations of students.

Throughout her career, Julie has championed inclusive service models that allow students with special needs to learn alongside their peers. She expanded early childhood programs, strengthened career transition services to prepare students for life beyond high school, and built strong partnerships with CareerTech programs and community agencies. Most importantly, she has fostered a culture of high expectations, believing, and proving that every student is capable of growth, achievement, and success.

Julie's colleagues and coworkers speak of her with deep respect and admiration. Many note that Claremore’s services for students with special needs are among the very best in the state, in part due to her leadership. Julie’s mission has always been to do what’s right for kids. Dawn Nipps, Executive Director of Student Learning at CPS, shared how Julie’s leadership has transformed the district’s approach to Special Education, empowering principals to be strong advocates and creating more inclusive environments across every building. Nipps emphasized, “She consistently goes above and beyond, working collaboratively with staff, parents, and the community to ensure that every student has the support and opportunities they deserve.”

A simple, yet powerful belief has always driven Julie’s work: "Individuals with special needs have the same basic need and desire to live a happy and fulfilling life as we do. They are capable of being productive citizens in the community and rays of light and hope for their families." Her leadership reflects a deep understanding that success in special education is not just about services and support, but about recognizing the potential in every student and helping them develop the skills, confidence, and independence they need to thrive.

Looking to the future, Julie remains committed to expanding early intervention supports, strengthening transition programs, and ensuring that every student, regardless of their needs, has access to a bright and fulfilling future.

Julie Geiger’s legacy is one of heart, hope, and transformational change. CPS is honored to celebrate her remarkable journey and the powerful, lasting impact she has had on generations of students, families, and educators. Mr. Bryan Frazier adds, “We are fortunate to have a steward of special education like Julie Geiger at the helm. Her steady leadership, servant heart, and relentless belief in students continue to leave a valuable mark on our district, one that will continue to shape lives for years to come.”
