Claremore, OK — Claremore High School proudly recognizes senior Melody Youtsey as its 51st Academic All-State recipient, an honor awarded to the top 100 graduating seniors in Oklahoma. This distinction reflects Melody’s academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to growth across academic, technical, and creative disciplines.
Rather than beginning high school with Academic All-State as a defined goal, Melody focused on consistently giving her best effort. When she later learned about the honor, it became a meaningful affirmation of the work she had already invested. “I have simply tried to be the best student I can be,” she shared.
Throughout her time at CHS, Melody has demonstrated leadership in both academic and extracurricular settings. She serves as President of SAGA and is a member of Art Club. In addition, she participates in the EAST Program at Northeast Tech Claremore, where she is the chapter president of Business Professionals of America (BPA) and the EAST Student Champion. These roles reflect her ability to lead thoughtfully while engaging in rigorous academic and technical learning.

Melody credits several educators with shaping her academic journey, including her English teachers, Ms. Lahr, Mr. Z, and Mrs. Andrews, who helped cultivate her love of writing and critical thinking, as well as Ms. Mercer, who encouraged her artistic development. She also acknowledged the influence of Mrs. Keith and Mrs. Ngare at Northeast Tech, whose mentorship and support were instrumental to her success.
After graduation, Melody plans to pursue a degree in biology or biological engineering, with a focus on genetics. She has been accepted to the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma and has also applied to Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Bowdoin College. Her long-term aspirations include graduate study and a career in genetic or biomedical research.

For Melody, being named an Academic All-State honoree carries deep personal meaning. She described the recognition as an important moment of validation, particularly after navigating challenges throughout her high school experience. “I’ve always struggled to feel like ‘enough,’” she shared. “This recognition reminds me that despite the trials and tribulations I’ve faced, my work and skills have not gone unappreciated.”
When asked for advice to future Academic All-State candidates, Melody emphasized the importance of strong communication. “Focus on your writing skills,” she said. “You can have great ideas and accomplishments, but being able to communicate them effectively makes all the difference.”
As Claremore High School’s 51st Academic All-State honoree, Melody Youtsey represents perseverance, intellectual curiosity, and the strength of student opportunity within Claremore Public Schools. Her achievement adds to the school’s growing legacy of academic excellence and serves as a powerful reminder that dedication and authenticity matter.
