Ask a principal what they do in a day, and you might get a different answer every time!
First and foremost, they are academic and instructional leaders. They set the vision for their schools, guide teaching and learning, support teachers, and make decisions that directly impact student success.
But that's only part of the job.
On any given day, they're mentors, coaches, counselors, problem-solvers, event planners, substitute nurses, and sometimes even substitute teachers. They navigate difficult conversations, support families, celebrate student achievements, and make hundreds of decisions most people never see.
They're responsible for creating a school culture where students feel safe, teachers feel supported, and learning remains the priority. It's a job that requires educational expertise, sound judgment, compassion, and a whole lot of grit.
And here's something we hope our families remember.
Our principals often refer to their students and staff as their school family, and they mean it. They celebrate their successes, worry about their challenges, and carry those responsibilities long after the school day ends.
But they also have families waiting for them at home. They're moms, dads, husbands, wives, and parents trying to make it to their own children's activities, family dinners, and important moments, just like the rest of us.
They give so much of themselves to their schools, often balancing the needs of hundreds of students and staff with the needs of the people they love at home.
This month, we hope you'll take a moment to recognize not just what our principals do, but all that they give.
To our Claremore Public Schools principals, thank you for your leadership, your commitment to public education, and the countless ways you show up for our students, staff, and families.
We see you. We appreciate you. And we're grateful you're leading our Zebras!
