This week we celebrate National Arts in Education Week! This celebration recognizes the transformative power of the arts, and advocates for equitable access to the arts for all students. Our wonderful music teacher, Mrs. Gaylord, read "Your Name Is A Song" to her kindergarten groups. They used this story to create their personal songs on a beautiful microphone. Thank you to all of those that teach, love, and support the arts!

First grade students are exploring their wonderful new reading curriculum.
Mrs. Sanders' class has started reading with partners. This is a big deal for developing readers! They are also practicing the short /a/ sound with decodable books.
Keep practicing at home.

THE MUSTANGS GO DOWN 35-33
Friday night lights this last week will be a night to remember for the Zebras as they got the win 35-33. If you missed the game you missed out on the Zebras showing who they are they are as a team. They are a team that will not quit until the final whistle, a team that rose up, a team that embraced the grind. The momentum switched back and forth all night, big play after big play, but in the end, the defense got the final stop on 4th down to seal a much-deserved victory for everyone in the program.

Learning is in full force at CPS and the students and staff are rocking it. Some students are even able to cash in Zebra Bucks because they've been caught doing great things at Westside.

CPS has 5 GE model schools. Each incorporates Rise & Shine into their routines.
September's GE focus is:

💭Enriched Vocabulary is CANDOR - the quality of being open and honest in expression.
💭Quote is - "If you want to be trusted, be honest." -Anonymous
Help your child practice this life principle by incorporating it into your daily discussions.

Expectation #5: We will help one another whenever possible! 🥰

The Zebras got off to a great start against the Catoosa Indians in week one of the season. The 7th, 8th, and 9th-grade teams showed up and played hard, executed well, and left it all on the field.
The Zebra Nation wants to congratulate Miguel Hernandez and Graham Williams for being named player of the week.

Students and staff may have had a short school week last week, but there was no shortage of hard work. Various grades across the district explored book genres by having a book tasting! Reservations only, of course. Students made their way from genre table to genre table getting a taste for the genre and the books! Students found out more about what kinds of books they liked. Bon Appetit, Zebras!
