
Creating a safe learning environment is one of Claremore Public Schools' goals for our district. It's essential to invest, resource, and equip our staff to carry out this mission in the classroom.
Four CPS elementary teachers traveled to Edmond to hear Dr. Ruby Payne discuss her book, Emotional Poverty: How to Reduce Anger, Anxiety and Violence in the Classroom.
Dr. Payne is a former teacher and administrator who specializes in helping other educators and community leaders understand poverty and its effects on students and their families.

Kindergartners and 1st graders begin learning to properly type on a keyboard!!!!
This is a foreign skill for the little ones. They are pros on their iPads but with a little practice they will soon be pros at on computers too!!

Lunch ladies are people, too. Take some time to talk to them and thank them when we return from break.
They served over 1,150 holiday lunches Friday at our elementary schools.
Our lunch crew aims to be a welcoming and comforting part of our students' day. Not only do they provide a healthy breakfast and lunch to our students, but they also want them to share with them how they did on their English test or even if they won their baseball game the night before. They have always worked hard but since March 2019, our crew has not waivered. They continue to serve meals and our students with a smile. We are thankful for every one of them.

Have you ever wondered how that parade originated? Roosa 2nd graders read the book Balloons over Broadway by Melissa Sweet and created balloons characters. This book tells about Tony Sarg, a puppeteer who invented the balloons for Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Mr. Peters 5th grade music class at Roosa made music with xylophones. The students learned how to read and play melodies using the instruments. They combined rhythm and pitch to perform melodies together.
The xylophones were purchased from money that was donated to our program.

3rd graders at Claremont use graphic organizers to become better, more involved readers.

đź“– During reading, students identify the genre, setting, characters, and vocabulary words they want to know more about.
đź“– After reading, students reflect on the point of view, setting, and character traits.

Since the beginning of the year, the Claremont resource teacher Mrs. Massey spends time with 4th graders working on spelling multi-syllabic words.
In this exercise, Mrs. Massey tells the students how many syllables are in the word, and then syllable by syllable goes through the word with the students until they can identify what it is at the end.

After learning about the three states of matter, Mrs. Mann's class used science to create butter. After a lot of shaking they had a snack that most of the students gave a thumbs up!! 👍 Edible science is the best!!

Mrs. Boman’s 3rd grade class at Roosa is catching more than spiders in their web. They are using a “ Web of Words” to untangle singular and plural nouns.

Our friends in Mrs. Sweet's class at Westside are solving The "Case of The Thankless Turkey"!! These students-detectives solved math problems to find a clue to eliminate suspects based on the clues! This activity required the students to use their critical and deductive thinking skills. The kids did amazing and looked so good with their "official" badges, case files, and all the accessories to go with them!!

1st grade students at Claremont, got to experience a rare treat last week, as an extension to what they had been learning about Veterans Day. Mrs. Stadler invited some very special guests to show our first graders how to correctly fold the American flag.

Who remembers playing with Play Doh?
The beautiful colors, the squishing and rolling of it in your hands? In Ms. Best’s Pre K class they combined fun with learning! They are using Play Doh to strengthen their fine motor skills. It helps improve the dexterity in their hands and fingers too. These skills help as they draw and write.

🎨 Contemporary artist 🎨 Jen Stark was the inspiration for our Drip Painting. This Kindergarten through 5th grade project will hang in the Art Room at Roosa. Stark said "Color is a way to get someone's attention".
This project did just that, the kids have enjoyed both the lesson and the painting process. The fact that Stark is a current artist kept the students intrigued especially when they learned she has collaborated with companies such as Google, Vans and MTV.

Claremore High School took six officers to the OK Association of Student Councils' State Convention.
The event offers leadership training for high school students to take back to their schools to impact the student body positively.
We met up with Anna Greenland, CHS Junior Class Representative, about her experience. While building friendships and having fun, she gained some valuable incite and goals for the future.
The workshops and speakers challenged her to consider self-care and personal growth as a leader.
“Although it sounds counterintuitive to focus on oneself in service and leadership, its importance was revealed to me during this event. To be a great leader and pour into others, leaders must make sure they are filled up. One way to grow in this area is through a process that helps focus on response to the situations around us rather than letting emotions or immediate reactions take over,” she shared.
Anna is motivated to create more inclusive and celebratory CHS school events. She is looking into strategies to increase attendance at events such as the performing arts program which tends to have the least student presence.
She sees StuCo as the catalyst for unity by bringing the school together, uplifting, and serving the students and staff. “I would like to specifically focus on this at CHS and use StuCo to set this change into motion,” she told us with great enthusiasm!
“The purpose of StuCo at CHS is to bring the school leaders together so that we can set an example for others and uplift them through that example,” She is intentional when talking about servant leadership and its role in creating unity in our school. “We are here to serve the student body and school in any capacity; that usually looks like organizing and executing school events that bring our students together and instill school spirit,” she added.
We are proud of Anna’s dedication to the school and thankful for the opportunity to develop and apply leadership and life skills. ​

Students today use technology more than ever. 5th grade decided to take a step away from technology and look at the latest news printed in the local newspapers.
Students learned real quick the first lesson of the newspaper… how to fold it.

Students in Mrs. Proctor's 3rd grade class are beginning to learn multiplication by understanding the patterns contained in the multiplication chart.
The Domino Spiral is a fun hands-on way to choose the factors being used for the activity. Students started at the beginning of the dominos and worked their way to the middle of the spiral, multiplying factors and writing down the following or proceeding multiples.
This process helps students memorize their multiplication facts by understanding the patters they make.
