Who says you can't see a 😁smile under a mask? We'd say it's all in the 👀 eyes! Ethan is very excited to receive his second foot for 🏃‍♂️running 10 miles. A program that helps students build a love for running, a way to exercise their bodies and brains. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Distance Learning Day! Barrett set up a study station at home to help him stay focused on his work. His teacher, Mrs. Karin Howell at Claremont Elementary, assigned students to use their library books to take part in an interactive recorded video book scavenger hunt reinforcing their language arts focus. As the teacher called a skill, students were asked to record the example they found in their own text. Mrs. Howell provided her own example using a song playing in the background. We miss our students and would love to see them learning at home - post a pic in the comments. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

💡 We are lighting up our students' minds and smiles! Mrs. Lauri Titsworth's Pre-K class at Westside recently received a light board and materials through a Claremore Public Schools Foundation grant. The children enjoy using it to practice sorting, counting, making patterns, and creating geometric designs. I'm so proud of their ability to share and take turns! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Skip counting is an essential part of early numeracy as it is a fundamental skill used in many different practices. Children use skip counting for basic tasks such as telling time or dealing with money and developing a student's ability on other mathematical skills. Counting forwards and backward by ones, twos, fives, and other multiples are strategies used to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems. Here kindergarten students in Mrs. Stadler's class at Claremont Elementary practice skip counting by two and putting numbers in order! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Compounds, mixtures, and elements... how do you get students interested in learning about them? By thinking outside the box! Mrs. Boyd's science classes at WRJH are learning about compounds, mixtures, and elements using Legos. Using Legos helps students recreate and understand how this works! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

🐧 Have you ever heard of Tacky the Penguin? 🐧 Mrs. Cummings's and Mrs. Woods's classes were in for a treat! They read the book Tacky the Penguin and then did this fun craft with watercolors! Tacky, the penguin, is not your typical penguin. He wears loud Hawaiian shirts, sings off-key, trips over his own feet, and does "splashy cannonballs." He clearly doesn't fit in with the other pretty penguins that make beautiful music and march in straight lines. Tacky's the odd bird out among all his friends. This nonconformist teaches his old penguin friends some new tricks and helps save the day by outwitting some hunters! This hilarious series following the adventures of this superlative penguin and is a modern classic. 🐧 Want to watch a live webcam of penguins? https://zoo.sandiegozoo.org/cams/penguin-cam Here is a GREAT webcam of some at the San Diego Zoo! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

It’s National School Counselors Week! We have 3 amazing counselors here at CHS. Today we will introduce you, Cindy Vanaman, the Claremore High School Freshmen and Sophomore Counselor since 2014. She enjoys helping kids realize their potential and reach their goals. Forming relationships with students and watching them succeed at something they may not have thought they could do fuels her passion for her job here at CPS. Before coming to CHS worked as a counselor at a wilderness camp for emotionally disturbed adolescent boys in South Florida for 2 years. Then spent 16 years working for DHS in Child Welfare, followed by 6 years as a Program Director for Volunteers for Youth. She still serves on their Board of Directors. She married a CHS graduate and raised their 3 children in the CPS system. All three have kept her on the sidelines and in the stands of Zebra sporting events. When she gets free time, she loves to read and make memories with her family. She received her Masters in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma and her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the State University of NY. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Here's a riddle for you... Who has a heart of gold, is always smiling, and brings happiness wherever she goes??? If you guessed our school counselor, Teresa Hopper, You got it right! Mrs. Hopper is the sweetest person you will ever encounter! She brings lessons to each classroom that are fun and engaging, teaching kids about honesty, integrity, respect, and many other life principles! She brought in a big paper heart. Each child took turns smashing, crinkling, and wading up the paper heart. Then she asked them to get the wrinkles out. No matter what you do, you can't unwrinkle a broken heart. Once you say something negative to someone, you can't take it back. It's essential to think before you say or do something you'll regret. What a great lesson for our Westside students! Thank you, Mrs. Hopper, for all you do! You're the best! Your Westside family appreciates you! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Kari Forest the Junior Counselor/Test Coordinator at Claremore High School. When asked what she loved about working at Claremore, she told us, “Good people and good students!” She went into teaching because she enjoyed learning and wanted to share that with others. She likes to see people succeed and become more than they thought they could. She loves CPS because it’s a good fit for her; not too big, not too small, just right? She began her teaching career in 1980 and came to CPS in 2001. She taught Band for 21 years before coming to Claremore to be a principal and now a counselor. She has been an active volunteer for Volunteers for Youth and a member of CCOSA. She loves gardening and shopping and her beloved St. Louis Cardinals! She received her Masters in Education from NSU and her Bachelors in Music Education from SWOSU. Thank you for sharing your talents with CHS! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Mrs. LaShell Page received an iPad grant and had this to say: "I adore the iPad grant I received and the blessing it has been this year especially! My First Graders at Roosa Elementary use them daily. These iPads have allowed them to escape the captivity of COVID and let their minds explore new places through virtual field trips. Students respond to technology in the classroom with ease and enjoyment. These iPads have provided an enhancement of learning in my classroom this year. Thank you, CPSF, for making this dream come true!" #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Does it seem that students are constantly on their electronic devices? Mrs. Rahn's 6th grade STEM students at WRJH show us how they don't just consume technology; they are actually creating it! They used Ozobots to learn the creative side of coding. Students use a series of colors to code the Ozobots to tell the robot what to do. First, they worked on coding their initials, then moved to creating a storyboard for the Ozobots. Some created haunted houses, while others created traditional nursery rhymes. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE
